Health and Nutrition Project Officer (Aden & Lahj)
The Project officer has responsibility for the management of nutrition programme activities at governorate and district level, including the provision of technical support to Nutrition Assistants and Community Volunteers, training and capacity building, representation of the program in external meeting, Coordination with MoPHP, supervision of project activities and Information Management.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Under the direct guidance of the Health and Nutrition Programme Coordinator, ensure the effective planning, implementation, assessment, monitoring and reporting nutrition activities within the scope of the project and in complementarity of other SCI programs.
Project planning, implementation and Management
- Collaborate with DHOs, GHOs and Support the nutrition assistants in identification and training of Community Volunteers in the targeted locations
- Guide and support nutrition assistants to develop plans for identifying and registering children U5, PLWs in the targeted locations through Community Volunteers
- Support nutrition assistants in developing community sessions plans on IYCF, Hygiene and health seeking behaviors
- Support nutrition assistants in selection and establishment of community kitchen in targeted locations, developing cooking demonstration plan by Community Volunteers
- Support Nutrition assistants in developing monthly MUAC screening, recording MUAC and Oedma information in registers and refer acutely malnourished boys, girls and PLWs to nearest health facilities for treatment
- Engage and participate with FSL team in selection of beneficiaries to ensure that nutrition sensitive criteria are followed and implemented
- Participate with FSL team in review of the beneficiary list from nutritional vulnerability criteria
- Supervise closely the work plan of nutrition assistants and CHVs deliverables in field – using quality benchmark developed for this project
- Lead technical trainings for staff, CHVs on project specific components (IYCF, detection and referrals of acute malnutrition, people with sickness etc.)
- Mange nutrition assistants and closely follow up on progress made on project work plan and deliverables
- Estimate programme supply needs, raise PRs for programme implementation
- Coordinate and organize training sessions with MoPHP or internal teams
Project Monitoring and Reporting
- Support Nutrition Programme Coordinator to develop project work plan, with shared responsibilities among nutrition teams and timelines
- Closely support nutrition assistants in implementation of the work plan and monitor progress on a monthly basis
- Ensure that Nutrition Assistants are regularly providing technical supervision and coaching to community volunteers on facilitation of group sessions, individual counselling, screening and reporting
- Support Nutrition Coordinator preparing monthly progress reports (IPTT/IMPACT) by compiling reports from Nutrition Assistants and Project data entry team
- Conduct monthly project review meeting with Nutrition and FSL teams, identify gaps and define priorities for assistants and community volunteers
Raise technical issues and challenges to Health and Nutrition Programme coordinator and Manager for technical support and problem solving.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Qualified public health professional with 1-2 years of experience in implementation of nutrition programme activities
- Proven ability to manage a programme including management of human and material resources.
- Experience staff training and capacity building of national structures.
- Understanding rights based approaches and participatory concepts and practical experience in similar context.
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and negotiate clearly and effectively at all levels, taking into account cultural and language difficulties.
- Strong commitment to capacity building of national staff and partners with willingness to adopt a participatory and consultative management approach.
- Flexible, adaptable, able to improvise and work in stressful, volatile environment.
