Job Purpose:

The Project Coordinator will ensure the effective planning, implementation, and monitoring of protection programs aimed at safeguarding vulnerable populations. This role will require a deep understanding of protection principles and a strong ability to manage diverse project elements while adhering to donor and organizational standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop comprehensive project implementation plans, staffing plans, procurement plans, and reporting mechanisms aligned with protection activities.
  • Ensure all protection activities are properly initiated, planned, and controlled using project management and monitoring tools.
  • Ensure that robust project management processes are in place, in compliance with the Foundation's methodology and protection standards.
  • Foster strong collaboration and mutual support among various stakeholders, including protection staff, local authorities, donors, and community members.
  • Facilitate collective problem-solving, exchange of experiences, and cooperation across protection activities.
  • Represent the protection program in coordination meetings and with external stakeholders, ensuring that protection concerns are well-communicated and addressed.
  • Work with the Program management team to implement protection-focused monitoring and evaluation plans, ensuring the effectiveness of protection activities.
  • Coordinate with staff to collect and compile data for weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports, ensuring accurate and timely submission.
  • Contribute to the preparation of donor reports, project reviews, and documentation of lessons learned from protection activities.
  • Ensure timely and efficient procurement processes in line with protection project needs, addressing delays and ensuring all requests are filed as per schedule.
  • In coordination with the Program Manager and Finance department, ensure that accurate, phased budgets for protection activities are prepared and tracked.
  • Monitor financial transactions to ensure expenditures are within budget allocations, and ensure timely reporting in line with donor and organizational guidelines.
  • Assess and identify capacity-building needs for protection staff and coordinate training activities to enhance the effectiveness of protection interventions.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to staff and field teams to ensure that protection standards are adhered to in daily operations.
  • Lead the identification, management, and mitigation of risks associated with protection activities, maintaining a Project Risks Log.
  • Regularly update the team on new risks and implement strategies to address them as they arise.
  • Maintain an Issues Log to track project challenges and requests for changes, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Work with the Program team to ensure that the beneficiary selection process for protection interventions is transparent, inclusive, and aligned with project design criteria.
  • Ensure the protection of beneficiaries by implementing appropriate safeguards in the selection, targeting, and service delivery processes.
  • Ensure that all protection activities are conducted in compliance with relevant legal frameworks, local government regulations, and donor policies.
  • Liaise with local authorities, donors, and partner organizations to ensure the complementarity of protection efforts and compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
  • Supervise the daily operations of the protection project team, ensuring staff are working effectively and addressing any absences or operational gaps.
  • Support the overall management of project activities to ensure timely and successful completion of protection initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of new protection project proposals, ensuring they align with the organization’s objectives and the specific needs of vulnerable populations.
  • Provide updates to the Program team on the progress of ongoing protection projects and highlight any emerging issues or challenges.   

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, Social Work, Law, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in Protection project coordination or management, specifically in protection, human rights, or humanitarian response in NGOs or INGOs.
  • Knowledge of protection frameworks and principles, including child protection, gender-based violence, human rights, and international humanitarian law.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment, managing multiple priorities.
  • Full professional proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with project management tools.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience in managing protection activities for vulnerable populations, including refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), or other at-risk communities.
  • Familiarity with donor compliance requirements and project reporting systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with integrity and discretion.
