ABOUT INTERSOS

INTERSOS is an Italian humanitarian organization that works all over the world bringing assistance to people in danger, including victims of natural disasters and armed conflicts. We intervene to effectively meet the needs of people in crisis, with particular attention to vulnerable groups, women and children. We provide primary assistance in terms of food, shelter, medical assistance and basic goods, while also ensuring that basic needs, education, safe water and health needs are met during the recovery phase.

Since 2012, INTERSOS has had operations in the Middle East to contribute towards ensuring emergency relief and social protection assistance for Syrian refugees fleeing their home in search of safety, with special focus on most vulnerable groups (children, women, elderly and persons with special needs).

In Jordan, INTERSOS has focused its humanitarian response on supporting Syrian families displaced across urban and rural areas, as well as vulnerable host communities, witha programme that concentrates on protection 

OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION:

The Senior Social Worker will be responsible, under the supervision of, and in coordination with, the Field Manager , for supporting the implementation of the activities within Programs at the level of Karak field base. S/he will be supervising and supporting Social Workers and Community Mobilizers at field level in identifying and assessing the cases and in providing the assistance according to the different projects implemented. S/he will act as focal point for the SWs and CMs in front of the Field Manager, facilitating communication and coordination between them.

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Under the direct supervision of the Field Manager, the Social Worker Team Leader will be responsible of the following:

  • S/he will be in charge of supporting the Social Workers and Community Mobilizers, deployed at field level, in identifying, assessing and following up beneficiaries and assistance;
  • Under the guidance and supervision of the Field  Manager,  s/he  will  support  the  design, implementation and monitoring, , of any Program Needs-related activity at field level, including, but not limited  to:  identification  of  potential  beneficiaries,  assessments,  distribution, monitoring and evaluations etc.;
  • S/he reports directly to the Field Manager, and manages the Social Workers and Community Mobilizers teams, bridging communications and coordination between the Field Manager and the team;
  • S/he supports the Field Manager in designing, implementing and monitoring the tasks assigned in by the Program Coordinator, the Programme Manager and the Field Manager to the Social Workers and Community Mobilisers teams.
  • S/he ensures the communication and reporting lines established at Mission level are implemented by the staff under his/her supervision.
  • S/he supports the mechanisms of Communication with Communities at field level; ensuring management’s instructions are followed by Social Workers teams and feedbacks are collected and delivered.
  • S/he liaises with the FM for communications with CBOs and Community leaders in regards to Social Workers’ and Community Mobilizers’ tasks and responsibilities.
  • S/he identifies and reports on gaps and challenges in regard to the job of the social workers and community mobilizers teams and actively proposes solutions.
  • S/he identifies and reports on gaps and challenges in the implementation of the programme, support the identification of the most appropriate methodologies of cash delivery and defines ways to better serve the beneficiaries.
  • S/he actively proposes ways and methodologies to improve the quality of the action.
  • S/he is responsible for identifying and detecting the presence of emerging new needs/protection risks and trends among the refugees and host community and liaise with Protection Coordinator whenever protection issues arise;
  • S/he Reports all the activities conducted by the Social Workers and Community Mobilizers teams on a regular basis, and anytime it is requested by the Field Manager and/or the Programme Manager.
  • Supporting the PM and the Field Protection Manager in managing records, files, folders, and other project documentation;
  • S/he will perform any other tasks requested by the Field Manager and/or the Program Coordinator and the Programme Manager in the framework of the activities foreseen by INTERSOS Programmes Needs in Jordan.
  • The staff is allowed to drive INTERSOS vehicles for working-related purposes following the standard operating procedures (sops) for the use of INTERSOS vehicles and movement planning (fleet management) and after having obtained the clearance to drive

Accountability:

  • Ensure maintaining high confidentiality of information, up to date documents, including processes and verification.

Human Resources: 

  • Supervise team members, provide support and training, promote a friendly and professional working environment, and ensure staff development and learning environment.
  • Ensure team performance appraisals are reviewed regularly and conducted as per INTERSOS HR policies and procedures.
  • Advocate and plan for professional development for supervised staff. 

Working Relationships:

  • Proactively engage with supervisor and key staff.
  • Proactively engage on a regular basis with supervisor to develop working networks to seek advice where needed.

Representation:

  • Represent INTERSOS in a positive and professional manner to contribute to the creation of a positive image and overall credibility of the organization, notably through the application of INTERSOS mandate, ethics, values and stand-point with regard to other actors.

Security:

  • Ensure the application of, and compliance with, security protocols and policies of you and your supervised staff.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

 

Education

  • University degree in social studies or any related field

Professional & Personal requirements

  • Ideally at least 3 years of professional experience in social working
  • A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in the humanitarian context.
  • Extensive field experience and an in–depth knowledge of refugee assistance issues
