Position Summary:

The Health & Nutrition Coordinator Doctor is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the effective delivery of healthcare and nutrition services in four key health facilities in Marib Gov. This role is critical in enhancing the quality, accessibility, and efficiency of medical and nutritional care provided to the local population and internally displaced persons (IDPs). The coordinator will work closely with healthcare teams, local health authorities, and humanitarian partners to strengthen service delivery, implement evidence-based interventions, and ensure compliance with national and international health and nutrition standards.
Beyond supervision, this role requires strong leadership, strategic planning, and hands-on technical support to healthcare providers, ensuring that both curative and preventive healthcare services are effectively integrated with nutrition programs. The Health & Nutrition Coordinator Doctor will also play a vital role in capacity-building initiatives, monitoring performance, and addressing challenges related to healthcare service provision.

Key Responsibilities:

1.    Healthcare Service Delivery & Supervision:

  • Oversee the implementation of essential healthcare services across four health facilities, ensuring quality patient care and adherence to clinical guidelines.
  • Provide direct technical support to medical staff, including doctors, nurses, and midwives, to strengthen their capacity in primary healthcare and emergency response.
  • Conduct regular field visits to assess healthcare service provision, identify gaps, and recommend improvements.
  • Ensure the availability of essential medicines, medical supplies, and equipment to maintain uninterrupted service delivery.
  • Strengthen infection prevention and control (IPC) measures within all supported health facilities.
  • Ensure that services are inclusive and address the specific needs of vulnerable populations, including children, pregnant women, and people with chronic illnesses.

2.    Nutrition Program Implementation & Oversight:

  • Supervise the delivery of nutrition services, including community-based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM), outpatient therapeutic feeding programs (OTP), and targeted supplementary feeding programs (TSFP).  
  • Ensure the proper screening, diagnosis, and treatment of malnutrition cases among children under five and pregnant/lactating women.
  • Monitor nutrition-related health indicators and ensure timely reporting of cases.
  • Coordinate the distribution and utilization of therapeutic and supplementary food supplies in collaboration with relevant partners.
  • Strengthen the integration of nutrition services within primary healthcare, promoting preventive measures such as Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices.

3.    Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Act as the primary focal point for coordination between health facilities, local health authorities, and humanitarian organizations.
  • Participate in health and nutrition cluster meetings and represent the organization in coordination forums.
  • Liaise with donors, partners, and government entities to align health and nutrition interventions with broader public health strategies.
  • Ensure strong collaboration between healthcare teams and community-based health volunteers to improve outreach and service coverage.

4.    Capacity Building & Staff Development: 

  • Identify training needs and conduct capacity-building sessions for healthcare providers on medical care, nutrition interventions, case management, and reporting.
  • Develop training materials and conduct on-the-job coaching to enhance the technical skills of health facility staff.
  • Promote best practices in patient-centered care, early detection of malnutrition, and integration of nutrition with maternal and child health services. 

5.    Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting:

  • Establish mechanisms for monitoring healthcare and nutrition program performance, ensuring data accuracy and completeness.
  • Conduct periodic assessments to evaluate the impact of interventions and propose evidence-based improvements.
  • Prepare and submit regular progress reports, including patient statistics, service utilization, and identified challenges.
  • Ensure compliance with donor requirements and national health reporting systems.

6.    Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) with a valid license to practice. Additional training in public health, nutrition, or health management is an asset.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in healthcare and nutrition program management, preferably in humanitarian settings.  

•    Technical Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of primary healthcare, maternal and child health, and emergency medical response.
  • Experience in nutrition programming, particularly CMAM, OTP, and TSFP interventions.
  • Familiarity with national and international healthcare protocols and standards.

•    Soft Skills:

  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in challenging field conditions with limited resources.

•    Language: Proficiency in Arabic and English (written and spoken).  

7.    Working Conditions:

  • Based in Marib with frequent field visits to health facilities in Marib Gov.
  • May require working beyond normal hours in emergencies or during field missions.
  • Fieldwork may involve exposure to difficult environmental conditions and security risks.
