Purpose of position

We are seeking for a skilled Communications Specialist to join our team in Aden, playing a key role in visually communicating our projects. 

Our organization has been working in Yemen for over 10 years and is now looking for a competent, compassionate and capable communications professional to help ensure the impact of our projects is effectively transmitted to a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. 

As Communications Specialist, you will manage projects communication products, in particular photography and videography. Your mission is to craft compelling visual narratives that illustrate the projects' successes. You'll use your strong understanding of the development sector and excellent communication skills to connect external audiences to impactful work in the region.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Communication and Message Development:

  • Develop compelling messaging aligned with organization's goals, promoting the organization's profile and impact.
  • Craft engaging content for social media platforms.
  • Manage media outreach efforts to secure positive coverage.

Social Media Content Creation and Management:

  • Develop a monthly content calendar featuring diverse formats like digital content, animated video materials, infographics, and photographs.
  • Collaborate with the team and management to create a plan for social media publication schedules, sponsorship strategies, and cost-effective payment methods.

Communication Planning and Execution:

  • Maintain an up-to-date work plan outlining communication activity, including a calendar of program events with required communication support.
  • Research and propose new communication strategies to optimize the achievement of office goals.

Content Production and Management:

  • Edit and manage photography and videography products to ensure adherence to office branding guidelines.
  • Prepare content for social media platforms to enhance coverage and support of organizational activities. Ensure consistency with corporate messages and branding standards.

Success Story Development and Dissemination:

  • Collaborate with program teams and participate in field visits to gather information for crafting compelling success stories and case studies.
  • Develop captivating visuals like photographs and videos to amplify stories shared on social media platforms.

Program Communication Support:

  • Provide communication support for various program activities, including workshops and events, to ensure their successful implementation.

Content Management and Archiving:

  • Maintain a centralized database of program videos and photographs using Microsoft SharePoint for easy access and organization.

Communication Guidance and Compliance:

  • Provide guidance to project teams on communication best practices and visibility requirements to ensure compliance with the office communication policies.

Reporting and Impact Tracking:

  • Contribute to monthly, quarterly, and annual reports by providing success stories and documentation of project implementation, aligned with office requirements.

Collaboration and Teamwork:

  • Collaborate effectively with relevant departments and staff to achieve project communication objectives.
  • Collaborate with the implementation team to regularly produce and distribute program status materials like leaflets and brochures, showcasing the project's achievements and status for diverse audiences.
  • Train all staff members, partners, grantees, collaborators and subcontractors in the appropriate use of the branding and marking requirements authorized.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
  • Undertake other communication tasks as needed and assigned by program managers / office management.

About you (the candidate)

Essential:

  • A minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, or Public Relations, with minimum of 3 years of experience in the field of journalism, communications, external relations, public affairs, public relations or corporate communications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including 
  • Fluency in English and Arabic, both written and spoken.
  • Demonstrated competence to assess priorities and manage a variety of activities in a time-sensitive environment and meet deadlines with attention to detail and quality.
  • Professional experience in the media environment in Yemen, with experience of drafting materials for traditional and digital media.
  • Experience managing a network of creative professionals, with the ability to deliver clear briefs.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Understanding of the development sector and international development issues.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience in producing and editing photography/videography

Desirable

  • Field work experience and background/familiarity with emergency situations is an asset.
