VACANCY: Biomed Technician
Position status: Full time.
Location: Kilo Project in IBB Governorate.
Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, humanitarian, non-governmental organization providing assistance to people in need as a result of natural and man-made disasters, irrespective of race, religion, ideology or politics.
Main Purpose
Performing autonomously and following up, the maintenance and correct repair of the biomed equipment in the project/mission and ensuring regularly that the usual medical maintenance and cleaning are done properly according to MSF standards and procedures, in order to ensure the equipment are in perfect running conditions.
Accountabilities
- Performing and carrying out, all necessary complex / advanced installation, maintenance and repair of MSF biomedical equipment and ensuring that as few items are out of service at any given time. This includes the following tasks :
- Organizing and participating in the installation of biomedical equipment
- Following the schedule and carrying out preventive and curative maintenance works for the equipment according to the MSF and/or manufacturer's protocols, manuals, and recommendations and ensuring that cleaning and simple maintenance are properly carried out by medical staff
- Reporting any issues or problems on biomed equipment to his/her supervisor and proposing solutions (training of staff on a device, operating procedures, etc.). If maintenance work requires further assistance, documentation or additional tools, this shall be requested from and provided by his/her supervisor.
- Participating in organising user training where required
- Managing the stock of consumable items, filling in the stock cards, carrying out physical stock inventories, executing orders necessary for renewing stock, avoiding any shortage
- Responsible for the equipment and tools (including extinguishers), checking they are correctly and safely used, maintaining and renewing them when necessary and keeping the inventory updated.
- Keeping working area clean and tidy.
- Ensuring that all record sheets and books related to maintenance are always completed (including date of intervention, replaced parts, problems and solutions) and preparing needed reports before and after any repair or required maintenance
MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities
- Organize weekly meeting with MTL/HN to follow up/update them with Biomed status.
- Issue list of biomed spare parts for MOH devices, follow up with supply the spare parts requiest.
- Organize trainings for medical team when its needed, report to MTL any misuse/careless of biomed hygine protocls.
- Follow up with local suppliers spare part avaliability in the country, market asessement for local suppliers to be updated.
Asset Management :
- Must know the all biomedical devices present on the project(s). Must be able at any time to give the condition and location of this equipment.
- Understands the technical documentation, operating principle and use of each piece of biomedical equipment on the project/mission.
- Ensure that as few items are out of service at any given time.
- Organises and participates in installation and replacement of biomedical equipment.
- Identifies any issues or problems in any of the locations the equipment is used. Reports these to the supervisor and proposes solutions. (Training of staff on a device, operating procedures ...)
- Maintains the equipment files securely and ensures they are up-to-date; identification cards, mainte- nance forms, intervention requests, repair forms, guarantee certificates, etc…
Maintenance:
- Create the maintenance schedule for the equipment park and ensure it is followed.
- Carry out preventive and curative maintenance works according to protocols/manuals.
- Record and file records of all maintenance (preventive and curative). The date of intervention, replaced parts, problems and solutions should be included.
- Monitor use and care of equipment by the medical team and ensure that cleaning and simple maintenance is properly carried out.
- If maintenance work requires further assistance, documentation or additional tools this shall be requested from, and provided by, the supervisor.
- Report equipment failures identified by users. Make a first diagnosis and repair proposal to the supervisor.
- Create and regularly update the preventive maintenance schedule according to the advice of the support documentation, the manufacturer’s recommendations or the Biomedical Referent.
Stock Management:
- Manages inventory of spare parts and avoid stock rupture by making regular and timely proposals for orders to his superior.
- In collaboration with pharmacy stock manager, ensures adequate stock of consumables for biomedical devices.
- Keep track of the arrival of orders and returned repairs, request information in case of delay and / or emergency.
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor as Biomedical technician preferred
- Bachelor as mechanical or electrical technician
- Demonstrable technical skills and understanding
Experience
- Experience in a technical field. (Minimum 2 years' experience)
- Pedagogical skills are an asset
Languages
- English and Arabic languages essential
Knowledge
- Know and understand all the biomedical devices present on the project(s) including the operating principle, use and technical documentation, of each biomedical equipment on the project/mission
