Position: Health and Nutrition Program Coordinator


Location: Taiz


Grade: 3b


Contract Length: till December (with possibility to renewal)


The Opportunity:


The Health and Nutrition Coordinator will work to contribute and improve the overall Health & Nutrition of the targeted Beneficiaries in Lahj/Taiz through provision of quality Comprehensive primary health care. The Health & Nutrition Coordinator will work collaboratively with the Ministry of Health and their staff and partners to meet the needs of patients, promote healthy behaviors, strengthen health systems and improve access to basic health services. She/ He will work under the direct line management of area manager and is also expected to work closely/coordinate with Health & nutrition Technical Advisors (Backstop) Country office on technical matters/inputs.


KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:


Program Development and Management:


  • Conduct needs assessments and assessments to identify priority areas for intervention and inform program design.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive health and nutrition programs, including maternal and child health, nutrition, disease prevention, and health systems strengthening.
  • Ensure that programs are culturally appropriate, gender-sensitive, and responsive to the specific needs of vulnerable populations, such as children, women, and internally displaced persons (IDPs).
  • Monitor program implementation, track progress against key indicators, and make necessary adjustments to ensure effective outcomes.

Partnership Building and Coordination:


  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with the Ministry of Health, other government agencies, NGOs, and local communities.
  • Collaborate with partners to develop joint work plans, share resources, and leverage synergies to achieve shared goals.
  • Facilitate knowledge exchange and learning between partners to enhance program effectiveness.

Technical Guidance and Capacity Building:


  • Provide technical guidance and support to health and nutrition staff at all levels, ensuring adherence to best practices and quality standards.
  • Conduct training of trainers (ToT) programs to build the capacity of local health workers and strengthen the health system.
  • Develop and implement mentorship programs to support the professional development of staff.
  • Promote the use of evidence-based approaches and innovative strategies to improve health and nutrition outcomes.
  • Experience in supervisory technical tools development and conducting joint supervision along with multisectoral disciplines. 

Data Management and Analysis:


  • Oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of health and nutrition data, ensuring data quality and integrity.
  • Utilize data to inform program decision-making, identify trends, and measure progress toward program objectives.
  • Develop and implement data visualization tools and dashboards to communicate program findings effectively.

Resource Management:


  • Develop budgets for health and nutrition programs, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Monitor financial performance and ensure compliance with financial regulations.

Emergency Response:


  • Lead the organization's response to health and nutrition emergencies, such as outbreaks, conflicts, or natural disasters.
  • Ensure that emergency interventions are timely, effective, and aligned with humanitarian standards.

Qualifications and Experience:


  • Advanced degree in public health, nutrition, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience working in health and nutrition programs, with at least 5 years in humanitarian or development contexts.
  • Proven experience in designing, implementing, and managing large-scale health and nutrition programs.
  • Strong understanding of the health and nutrition needs of vulnerable populations in Yemen, particularly in the southern region.
  • Experience working with government agencies, NGOs, and local communities in complex and challenging environments.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Fluency in English and Arabic.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills and commitment to capacity building of staff with proven skills as a trainer/facilitator and mentor.
  • Demonstrate skills in resource and staff management/development and the implementation of appropriate policies, procedures, and systems. 
  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles.
  • Ability to be self-sufficient and resourceful.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to projects and stay in basic conditions.
  • Computer skills e.g.  MS-Office, Word, Power Point and Excel.
  • Language skills: Excellent English writing and speaking communication

Desirable


  • An area of particular expertise within humanitarian health & Nutrition. 
  • Experience of working on Health/nutrition programs in emergencies and epidemic outbreaks. 
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Cultural sensitivity and adaptability.
  • Knowledge of health information systems and tools.
  • Experience in health and nutrition need assessments, SMART surveys, HF assessments etc.
