Background

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Protection Officer, the Protection Assistant will ensure the effective implementation of protection services in the assigned area of operation. This includes Community based protection and Protection monitoring activities. Protection Assistant is responsible for ensuring the full implementation of the CBP and PM activities by him/her and Community out-reach Volunteers. S/he will participate with the protection officer in assist the work plan, and provide technical support to Outreach Workers (CBP) and oversee outreach implementation including information dissemination, awareness-raising and psychosocial support.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Carry out information dissemination and awareness raising activities among the host community, IDP, migrant and refugee communities.
2. Contribute to community empowerment and capacity-building activities with the aim of preventing and/or reducing protection risks and building resilience.
3. Follow the referral pathways between SHS and other humanitarian actors and make follow up of the issues raised to ensure feedback is provided on time.
4. Support in identifying information and awareness-raising needs and gaps related to protection and rights among target beneficiaries and communities.
5. Prepare reports (weekly/monthly) on the activities done and submit timely to Protection Officer.
6. Receive individual needs for referrals (mobile or in field) and take
proper actions including writing referrals and provision of accurate information.
7. Ensure the CoVs and CBPNs are in place and active, make regular follow up and organize different activities (Awareness sessions / HH survey / awareness campaign) and hold regular meetings with them.
8. Participate in the CBPNs establishment, orientation and training on Code of Conduct and PSEA to newly formed networks.
9. In coordination with the Project Coordinator and Protection Officer, use solid participatory approaches with attention to age, gender, diversity, and vulnerability criteria, to facilitate meaningful dialogues that enable participants to self-identify protection concerns that affect their communities.
10. Organize and engage CBPNs and/or Community Mobilizers in Protection Monitoring activities with the aim of collecting qualitative and quantitative data on the protection risks in the target areas and contribute to drafting regular protection monitoring reports.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Responsible for building and maintaining good relations with key stakeholders including Local Authorities, Donors, UN/INGOs, and Clusters. In close collaboration with Deputy Head of Programs, responsible for relations with donor focal points.
Employees supervised: Project staff members.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Guided by the SHS Policies, continuously monitor and suggest relevant accountability initiatives in the field as well as strengthen the effort to document the impact of activities in the project area.
REPORTS DIRECTLY TO: Deputy Head of Programs.
WORKS DIRECTLY WITH: Programme Manager, Operation Manager, logistics officer/procurement officer, Admin/HR Manager, Finance Manager/Officer, M&E Manager, and Data & Media Manager, and internal Controller.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
- - Minimum 3 years of work experience in a similar or equivalent role in an I/NGO in areas of humanitarian/development sector.
- - Previous experience in protection monitoring
- - Excellent writing and reporting skills.
- - Interpersonal Skill: Ability to work with departmental heads & technical manager to ensure smooth work operations, including excellent verbal communication.
- - Should have adaptability, Self-motivation, and Organizational skills.
- - Time management Skill: being able to achieve operational objectives within set deadline.
- - Experience of proposal development for multiple donors and in-depth knowledge of project management and all aspects of project cycle.
