Mehad mission

Mehad is a French and international health and solidarity NGO established in 2011 by a group of doctors to address the urgent healthcare needs of populations affected by the war in Syria and neighboring countries. In 2022, Mehad expanded to Ukraine in response to the Ukraine war. Recently, Mehad has included Palestine and Yemen in its areas of intervention.

In early 2024, Mehad conducted an exploratory mission to southern Yemen to assess the humanitarian situation, particularly the health system's needs and potential contributions to strengthening it. Based on the findings of this mission, Mehad will move from assessment to implementation by supporting a health project in Abyan Governorate, as a first project. This project aims to enhance the resilience and stability of the people in northern Abyan by improving their access to quality healthcare services. Mehad aims to develop new activities in the future according to medical needs assessment, in collaboration with MoPIC and MoH. 

Position summary

Under the direct management of the Medical Coordinator first and then the Head of Mission in Yemen, the Medical Activity Manager is responsible for defining, coordinating and monitoring the medical activities under his/her responsibility according to Mehad’s protocols, standards and procedures in order to ensure delivery of quality medical care for patients and their communities as well as improve the health condition of the target population. 
The Medical Activity Manager will supervise and manage the implementation of Mehad projects in Yemen, ensuring that quality and technical standards are taken into account and respected.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Coordinating, assessing, implementing and supervising the proper functioning of mehad’s medical activities in Yemen according to Mehad’s protocols, standards and procedures 
  • Contribute to the deployment of the new project activities, support the development of procedures, protocols, and monitoring tools
  • Identify evolution of needs and plan appropriate new actions
  • Participating in the definition of annual planning and budget for the project and in the follow up of the mission’s projects. Supervising and ensuring that medical activities objectives under his/her responsibility are achieved, reporting to the Medical Coordinator (if any) or the Head of Mission any problem arising in the service
  • Contribute to the monitoring of the medical and humanitarian needs around intervention and evaluate the appropriateness of the medical activities, including notably follow-up of epidemiological data
  • Supporting quality improvement in healthcare facilities supported by Mehad by assessing needs, developing and implementing guidelines, protocols and organizational measures in coordination with facility management
  • Ensure adequate reporting of healthcare indicators, in coordination with WHO and other counterparts (Donors, partners, etc.)
  • In coordination with logistic department, coordinate international and local medical orders (medicines and equipment) according to identified needs and in line with Mehad’s procedures and Donor’s requirements  
  • In coordination with HR department, sizing medical HR needs and participating to the recruitment process of medical and related positions within Mehad’s mission
  • Participating in the reports to Mehad’s headquarters and counterparts according to guidelines (i.e. SitReps, medical statistical reports, etc.)
  • Accompany the Head of Mission when representing Mehad to the authorities, donors and other technical and/or financial partners on medical programmes or issues;

Qualifications, experience and skills :

I.    Academic background

[Required]    Medical doctor or paramedical degree. Desirable specialization or training in Tropical Medicine or related studies

II.    Professional/Practical Experience

[Required]    Experience of at least three years in relevant jobs and previous humanitarian experience with INGOs

[Required]    Experience as manager or team leader is strongly required

[Preferred]    Experience with institutional funding project implementation is a plus

IV.    Work locations 

  • Main workplace is in Aden 
  • Regular visits to the projects on various governorates (Abyan, etc.)

V.    Others

Languages : Ability to read, write and communicate professionally in English is mandatory, 
Local language is mandatory.
Essential computer literacy.
