Pharmacist Consultant 

Terms of Reference 

Title: Health and Nutrition Projects which need Medicines, Medical supplies, Lab Reagents and Medical Equipment

Background

Islamic Relief are seeking a highly qualified pharmacist with a Bachelor's degree to join our team as a Pharmaceuticals Analysis Specialist. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in market analysis of medicines and medical supplies in Yemen, along with a deep understanding of pharmaceutical regulations and procurement processes. This individual will be responsible for conducting technical analysis of tenders, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing expert advice on all pharmaceutical procurement matters. 

The Pharmacist Consultant will be required to;

  • Conduct in-depth market analysis of medicines and medical supplies available in Yemen from various companies.
  • Review the list of medicines raised by the Ministry of Health, adding the unit measure, recommended origin, and estimated prices based on current market trends.
  • Ensure all procurement activities adhere to the Ministry of Health regulations and guidelines.
  • Travel to different cities as needed to receive medicines and medical supplies.
  • Prepare technical reports in accordance with internal organizational regulations.
  • Provide advice and technical expertise on medicine and medical supplies tenders.
  • Prevent procurement of smuggled medicines and ensure compliance with Yemeni laws.
  • Compare and evaluate similar medicine items from different companies based on quality standards, specifications, and certificates.
  • Utilize knowledge of national pharmacopeia, supply chain management, and public pharmaceutical needs in decision-making processes.       

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in pharmacy.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the pharmacy field, with a focus on market analysis, tenders' analysis and procurement.
  • Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical market dynamics, regulations, and suppliers in Yemen.
  • Proficiency in preparing technical analysis reports in both Arabic and English languages.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to provide strong evidence and make informed decisions on pharmaceutical procurement matters.
  • Understanding of quality standards, specifications, and certificates related to pharmaceutical products.
  • Preferred to have previous experience of consultancy working with NGOs.
