Duration: Till March 31, 2025, renewable based on fund availability & performance

SUMMARY:

The Nutrition Officer is responsible to Oversee implementation of project activities in nutrition CMAM and IYCF. She/he will be involved in training, supervising and assisting nutrition field staff to ensure the best possible nutrition services are delivered to children U5 and PLW. She/he will work in constant collaboration with the Nutrition Coordinator, District and Governorate Ministry of health staff, the DHO, other local authorities and community members in order to share nutrition issues so as to improve/promote the nutrition of the vulnerable groups from the targeted communities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Nutrition Officer will be responsible but not limited to:

  • Proper and effective coordinator with MoPHP, GHO and other authorities before and during implementation of nutrition project activities.
  • Work closely with the team to ensure all children and PLW in the nutrition program receive care and treatment in accordance with MoPHP Guidelines, including being weighed, measured, registered and referred correctly and receive food/treatment according to the national protocol
  • Supervise nutrition activities in the supported communities offering OTP, and awareness-raising activities particularly on infant and young child feeding (IYCF) and hygiene practices.
  • Provide supportive supervision visits for OTP and TSFP activities within coordination with MOPHP.
  • Support regular community-based identification of malnutrition cases through screening for children 6-59 months, pregnant and lactating women and referral to nearest mobile clinics, and follow-up on defaulters. 
  • Ensure proper registration and admission/discharge of TSFP patients including ongoing monitoring on patients
  • In collaboration with MoPHP, organize training for community-based workers, mobile teams and provide on the job support for both OTP and TSFP activities.
  • Assist the community outreach volunteers in conducting nutrition, health, and hygiene activities in both health facility and community settings, for various target groups.
  • Coordinate all logistics requirements with the logistic team including goods dispatch, distribution plan and storage.
  • Prepare weekly, biweekly and monthly progress reports and statistic reports for submission to the Nutrition Officer.
  • Report any problems in a timely manner to the Nutrition Officer.
  • Ensure timely reporting of activities (narrative and data) in accordance with set deadlines.
  • Collect reporting/data inputs from mobile teams and community outreach volunteers and compile results weekly
  • Any other duties that may be assigned by the nutrition supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in medical/nutrition or equivalent from any recognized institution is required.
  • Three years of similar nutrition care experience
  • Ability to work long hours, often under pressure
  • Good practical skills
  • Basic computer skills including elementary keyboard knowledge
