Project Overview
The Strengthening Healthcare Access in Yemen (SHAY) project is a five-year USAID-funded initiative aimed at enhancing access to and equitable utilization of evidence-based maternal, newborn, and child health; nutrition; family planning; and reproductive health (MNCHN/FP/RH) services in Yemen. Led by JSI, the project collaborates with partners to employ a community-led strategy encompassing demand generation, supply-side reinforcement, and enabling environment support. Through engagement with midwives, community reproductive health volunteers, and community structures, the project will create awareness, facilitate access, and enhance care quality.
Position Description:
The Finance Assistant for the Strengthening Healthcare Access in Yemen (SHAY) program in the Field Office will manage all finance-related matters, working closely with the Finance and Grants Manager & officer (FGM) in the Aden office. The Finance Assistant will be responsible financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with donor and organizational policies. The Finance Assistant will coordinate with the FGM to develop and maintain efficient financial systems and will be the main point of contact for all financial issues in the field office. financial management skills and experience in managing financial systems are required. The Finance Assistant will be a key member of the program team and will contribute to the overall success of the program.
Financial Management
- Managing and recording the petty cash up to date and ensure that cash is available at all times for implementation of the activities or any surprise cash count.
- Managing the cash advances movement as per JSI procedures.
- Reviewing all approved payment documents with authorized signatures for proper and adequate backup before share it with the main office.
- Managing the cash advances movement as per JSI procedures.
- Maintain a proper filing system for all financial and accounting documents up-to-date.
- Scan all vouchers, contracts and other financial documents as well as supporting documents on a regular basis.
- Assist in the implementation of finance policies, procedures and regulations of JSI and USAID.
- Provide support and assistance with monthly financial reporting to the Finance officer in Aden.
- Assist with and update expenditure and budget analysis reports.
- Ensure cost effectiveness and reasonableness in all allocated expenses.
- Ensure compliance with local statutes, including, taxation and annual audits, etc.
- Any other work assigned by the Finance Officer.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a BA’s degree in in business administration, finance, accounting, or other relevant field (a Bachelor’s degree will be considered if the candidate has at least two years of relevant professional experience, with two years in a management position, preferred.
- Financial & administrative experience with USAID-funded project & knowledge of USAID rules & regulations, preferred.
- Experience & knowledge of Yemen tax laws preferred.
- Excellent verbal & written English and Arabic skills
- Ability to take initiative & work in teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word & Excel.
