Requirements for the position
Education:
- Essential : 3 years diploma in Nursing ( after secondary school ) for general or spe-cialized health services (bachelor’s in nursing science Desirable); Specialization or training in tropical medi-cine would be an asset Valid work permit in nursing / nursing technician
Experience:
- Essential working experience of at least two years in nursing activities related jobs. Desirable working experience in MSF or other NGO’s in developing countries
Languages: Mission Language essential; Local Working Language Desirable
Other: Essential computer literacy (Word, Excel and Internet)
Description
- Place of work: Al Qanawis Project, Hodeida Governorate, Republic of Yemen
- Level: 10
- Duration: One-year fixed term contract with a possibility of extension. Subjected to a probationary period as per the Yemen labour law.

Main Purpose:
Define, organize, implement and follow-up all care and nursing related activities in the project, ensuring the daily management of the human resources as well as the implementation of the MSF nursing protocols, in order to warrant efficiency , quality and continuity of prescribed care.
Accountabilities
- Plan and organize all nursing related activities IPD (inpatient department), OPD (outpatient department), maternity, nutrition, etc.), its organization design and sizing and participates in the definition and update of its associated budget to efficiently maintain the continuity of the healthcare at the standard quality levels.
- Coordinate and supervise the implementation of the legal therapeutic protocols, procedures, and standards, providing technical support when needed, to ensure the quality of the nursing care, confidentiality and information traceability, patient surveillance, as well as ensuring that the health care personnel use therapeutic and sterilization rules.
- Ensures all administrative procedures and documents (individual patient’s card and registration book, discharge paper, transfer paper, etc.) are used correctly, as well as the existing data management tools (i.e. Fuchia, EpiInfo, etc.).
- In cooperation with the pharmacist and medical coordinator, supervise the management and running of the pharmacy activity, preparing new orders when required, supervising expiration terms and consumption patterns, to ensure its rational use as well as that pharmacy stock levels are permanently above minimum safety point.
- In coordination with the project biomedical service supervising the appropriate use of medical devices and anticipating and communicating future needs.
- In close coordination with the HR department, plan and supervise the associated processes (recruitment, training, evaluation, development, and communication) of the nursing staff of the project to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required, improve people capabilities.
- responsible for scheduling duty rosters, shifts and on call of nursing staff.
- In accordance with medical prescriptions and according to protocols in force, supervise the distribution of drugs and equipment as well as train nursing staff to ensure a rationale use of both.
- Be responsible for the surveillance of patients in wards and train nursing staff on Patient Therapeutic Education (PTE), i.e., keeping contact with all patients, informing them regularly about their health state and responding to their questions.
- In close coordination with the laboratory manager, supervise laboratory outputs related to nursing activities (blood test) to ensure samples are collected correctly and results are provided on time.
- Supervise nutritional activities to ensure that therapeutic food is provided regularly and complies with quality and quantity standards.
- Supervise implementation of protocols depending on project objectives (Prevention Parent to Child Transmission (PPTCT), Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP)) and social services (Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT), Information, Education and Communication (IEC), mental health services, etc.
Report to the line manager on any relevant information linked to nursing activities and participates in monthly reports and definition of annual planning, budget for the project.
MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities
- Responsible to support the internal management of the operation theatre (OT) through the NTS ( nursing team supervisor ) for the planning of roster for the Nursing team, nurse aneasthetists, sterilization technicians, patient support team for the efficient functioning of the department.
- Coordinate, supervise, Ministry of health nursing plan/ roster in all wards and ensure the implementation of the legal therapeutic protocols, procedures, and standards, providing technical support when needed, to ensure the quality of the nursing care, confidentiality and information traceability, patient surveillance, as well as ensuring that the health care personnel use therapeutic and sterilization rules.
- Support the PHCs(Primary Healthcare Centers) activities to implement according to project strategy & Action Plan 2025
- Collaborate with the Maternity team and IPC (Infection Prevention and Control) supervisor in the implementation and follow up of all the surgical site indicators and the efficient use of the tool accordingly with all documentation and patient follow up.
- Responsible for the implementation of the IPC protocol in all the departments in the hospital through the IPC Supervisor, making sure that the IPC monthly, quarterly and SIPCA (Surveillance of Infectious and Parasitic Diseases Control and Analysis) reports are shared on time. Isolation of patients with diseases of epidemic prone potentials are well triaged
- The timely reporting of diseases of epidemic prone potentials under surviellance are respected, the various line lists (measles, cholera, etc) are updated and shared on time with the reporting and analysis of the trend of these diseases.
- Coordinate with the logistic team (Log manager, WATSAN, log hospital) and IPC for all the maintenance needed in the hospital, organize and lead for the transversal monthly meeting to better plan for the monthly activity to meet the hospital needs as requested.
- Responsible to ensure that all patients and care takers have received their meals on time, in quality and quantity by collaborating with the concerned profiles involved in the request, reception and distribution of meals for patients.
- Highly involved in the referral system of patients in all the departments in the hospital: preparation of the needs of patients in the ambulance, allocation of referral nurses suitable to be used for referral purposes, making sure that the referral bags are always updated by the NTS, preparing training specific on how to react in an ambulance during cases like, CPR(Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), hypoglycaemia, etc.
- Responsible for the planning, implementation and monitoring of the suitable learning process for the development of the nurses (simulation and on-the-job training) by coordinating with the already identified simulation team, identify the needs and plan to execute training through simulation methodology.
- Collaborate with the HCL( hospital clinical lead) to implement the Alqanawis Malnutrition protocol, faciliate the admission and discharge criteria, promote the referral system, patients flow to other OTP(Outpatient Therapeutic Program) and ITFC(Inpatient Therapeutic Feeding Center)
- Ensure clear, concise, and appropriate nursing monitoring of patients and documentation is performed in the various MSF supported departments, including implementation of tools such as PEWs, IITT.
- Ensure the management teams and quality of medical activities data, while contributing to the analysis and production of the regular reporting documents such as (punto info, sitrep and line list)
- Contribute to quality of care initiatives by detection and documentation of patient safety events and SMAE reporting, in collaboration with the HCL/PMR.
