Senior Database Administrator
POSITION OVERVIEW
The ORACLE\SQL Server DBA will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical ORACLE\SQL Server RDBMS systems, to ensure the availability and consistent performance of our enterprise applications. This is a “hands-on” position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Utilize your extensive experience to design, implement, and maintain high-performance ORACLE\SQL Server databases, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and reliability.
- Perform in-depth performance tuning and optimization, identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks, slow queries, and other related issues.
- Analyze wait events and proactively address performance challenges to ensure smooth and efficient database operations.
- Oversee and manage database replication strategies, including setup, configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting of replication environments.
- Responsible for database backup and restore functions including scheduled tests of DR availability, including knowledge of ORACLE\SQL restoration and availability technologies such as Clustering, Replication and especially Oracle Clusterware and SQL Always-On.
- Implement and manage Change Data Capture (CDC) processes to enable real-time data integration and synchronization across databases.
- Monitor database health using various tools, set up alerting mechanisms, and respond to incidents in a timely manner to minimize downtime and data loss.
- Participates in ORACLE\SQL code-reviews for the application teams to enforce ORACLE\SQL coding standards.
- • Builds and reports on ORACLE\SQL environment performance and availability metrics and takes appropriate actions to implement best practices and optimize performance.
- Assist in the technical analysis and design for current and future projects.
- Respond to critical database issues promptly, ensuring 24/7 availability of mission-critical systems.
- Work closely with cross-functional and cloud teams to plan and execute database upgrades, migrations, and patching while minimizing risks and downtime.
- Document database configurations, processes, and best practices, contributing to the creation and maintenance of internal knowledge resources.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in ORACLE\SQL Server database administration.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience as a ORACLE\SQL Server Database Administrator.
- Strong proficiency in performance tuning, query optimization, and resolving database-related performance issues.
- Expertise in analysing and mitigating wait events, bottlenecks, and resource contention.
- Proven experience in designing, implementing, and managing database replication and CDC solutions.
- In-depth knowledge of ORACLE\SQL Server high availability and disaster recovery mechanisms.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
- Azure knowledge is a plus. Willingness to further grow on Azure technologies is a must.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a proactive attitude.
- Experience with other database systems (MySQL, DB2, PostgreORACLE\SQL) and cloud platforms is a plus.
