DRC has been operating in the Middle East (ME) region for over a decade, running a combination of emergency, livelihood, protection and advocacy programmes through Country Offices (COs) in Yemen, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey with a Regional Office (RO) in Amman.

DRC Yemen’s response

Throughout its nine field offices and a workforce of 450 staff, DRC upholds its main programmatic objectives to provide immediate and life sustaining assistance, to strengthen the protective environment, and to reduce displacement related risks and vulnerabilities by promoting self-reliance at household and community level.

About the job: Under the supervision of the Protection Team Leader - MM, the Protection Assistant - MM is responsible for supporting the timely, high-quality, and effective provision of DRC MM response in Lahj and Taiz governorates. This includes implementing protection monitoring, conducting awareness sessions, conducting referrals to IOM and other relevant agencies, as well as distribution of food assistance, meal vouchers and dignity kits.

Main responsibilities    : 

Mixed Migration Intervention

  • As part of the MM team and under the supervision of the Protection Officer, conduct protection monitoring activities in Lahj costal road and in Taiz to identify protection risks and needs of individuals on the move;
  • Conduct awareness session for individuals on the move on protection and safety risks in Yemen, safe routes, asylum procedures, cultural norms and other relevant topics identified based on need assessments;
  • According to the identify needs and following individual’s consent, conduct referrals to IOM and other relevant agencies in the area of intervention;
  • Track referrals conducted and follow up with the receiving agency;
  • Conduct crisis counselling with encountered migrants facing protection risks;
  • Distribute assistance to migrants including meal vouchers, dignity kits and ready-to-eat food;
  • Implement of all components of the program in compliance with the standards of operation and M&E plan, follow weekly work plans for all activities making sure to mainstream protection and comply with humanitarian standards.

Reporting and Coordination

  • Ensure up-to-date understandings of service providers operating in the area and support in updating the service mapping through coordination with stakeholders;
  • Ensure that any beneficiary feedback, concerns or issues are addressed through the appropriate mechanisms;
  • Enter data and maintain accurate records regarding program implementation;
  • Provide weekly updates to the Protection Officer and/or Team Leader on conducted activities;
  • Contribute to draft reports and comply with set deadlines.

  • Any other duties relating to the nature of the job as directed by the Protection Officer and Protection Team Leader.

Moreover, we also expect the following:

Experience and technical competencies:

  • At least 2 years of experience in protection services, mainly Mixed Migration;
  • Deep knowledge of the mixed migration context in Yemen;
  • Deep knowledge of the community groups/leaders in the areas of intervention;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, respect, non-discrimination and safety of clients at all times;
  • Strong ability to organize work, meet deadlines, maintain composure, work independently and prioritize work under pressure, coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail;
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, creativity and flexibility;
  • Flexibility in working overtime when needed;
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel).

Terms   

The proposed employment conditions are based on DRC policy and Yemeni labour law. The selected candidate shall perform his/her duties in compliance with the DRC Code of Conduct and procedures at all times.

We offer

DRC will offer the successful applicant a contract ends on 30 June 2025, renewable dependent on both funding and performance. You must be available to start work as soon as possible and be willing and able to work in Lahj. 
Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment. This position will be placed at Band (I Non-Manager) and will be reporting to the Mixed Migration Team Leader
