Position status: Full time.
Location: Kilo Project in IBB Governorate – Al Qaeda hospital
Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, humanitarian, non-governmental organization providing assistance to people in need as a result of natural and man-made disasters, irrespective of race, religion, ideology or politics.
Main Purpose
The physiotherapist contributes to the implementation of physiotherapy-related activities in accord-ance with the defined strategy such as following medical prescriptions, planning and carrying out individual treatment program, assessing patients’ physical state, to maintain, improve or rehabilitate the patient's physical well-being and prevent further disabling complications. He/she should be a full member of the interdisciplinary hospital team which ensures patient-centred care within the hospital.
Accountabilities
- Assess patient physical capacities, using different procedures (e.g. functional capacity tests) to set up treatment objectives with the patient and therefore improve patient's health and wellbeing.
- Elaborate and implement physiotherapy programmes, including physiotherapy exercises, manipula-tions, massages, education, utilization of physiotherapy devices and orthopedic equipment, educat-ing and advising patients and their careers on how to prevent and/or improve conditions, to accelerate and improve activity results.
- Train patients and caretakers on how to avoid injury to create preventive behaviours.
- Actively monitor and report physiotherapy activities (correctly filling in patient files, forms, statistics, and reports) and analyse these statistics to improve quality service, preserving patient’s data traceability.
- Take care of physiotherapy equipment, managing the stock, making orders according to activity and cleaning up the equipment, to ensure its continuous availability and quality of service.
- Report to the technical referent any problem arising in the service, especially the loss/ rob-bery/damage of medical equipment or medicines to implement the appropriate measures.
MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities
- To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients and to organise this effectively and efficiently with regards to clinical priorities and service requirement, with the support of the Head-Nurse.
- Ensure a strict respect for cultural gender rules.To demonstrate the ability to communicate complex and sensitive information to patients, caretakers and other staff including imparting unwelcome news.
- To be able to manage potentially stressful, upsetting, or emotional situations in an empathetic manner.
- To communicate effectively with patients and caretakers so as to maximise rehabilitation potential and provide safe and efficient discharge plans.
- Identify and refer patients internally and accordingly to services/departments within the hospital in line with the patient centered approach.
- Participate and support in mapping the different stakeholders (local and international) and their services in the physiotherapy/rehabilitation field within our jurisdiction.
- Participate and support in the external referral of patients in need of prosthesis, orthosis, braces accordingly.
Requirements
Education
- Essential, Physiotherapist official degree / diploma.
Experience
- The one from the study period is considered as an experience

- Essential - local language; - Arabic,
