Job Description

  • Contract Type: Full-time.

Job Summary:

The Social Worker, is responsible for providing direct case management services and overseeing the implementation of individual and group psychological support sessions. Working as part of a protection team, the Social Worker will play a crucial role in addressing the protection needs of displacement-affected women, men, girls, and boys in Yemen. The role involves conducting psychosocial support (PSS) activities, managing referrals, and ensuring the well-being and safety of individuals and communities affected by displacement. The Social Worker will also assist in developing community-owned activities, conducting awareness sessions, and maintaining strict confidentiality.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Case Identification and Assessment:

  • Timely identify and receive cases with specific needs (PSN) through home visits, self-referrals, and by protection monitors and mobile teams.
  • Conduct basic assessments on the needs of vulnerable persons of concern (PoCs), including an assessment of environmental, emotional, behavioral, and social factors, as well as resources and strengths impacting individual well-being.
  • Recommend actions including internal and external referrals, and follow up on the outcomes of the response provided by other service providers after the referral.

2. Psychosocial Support Services:

  • Provide quality, timely, and age-appropriate individual or group psychosocial counseling to improve the resilience of PoCs, adhering to core guiding principles (informed consent, safety and security, confidentiality, respect, and no discrimination).
  • Refer PoCs to services offered within the mobile team (e.g., legal assistance, psychosocial support, emergency cash assistance) in accordance with specific eligibility criteria and to external service providers when required, ensuring follow-up of referred cases.
  • Conduct awareness sessions on topics related to protection, wellbeing, and community activities supporting child protection.

3. Documentation and Reporting:

  • Manage, fill, and archive specific forms for cases profiling, and prepare weekly and monthly reports including success stories and lessons learned, ensuring confidentiality, accuracy, and timeliness.
  • Report challenges or limitations during field activities implementation to the team leader and Protection Officer, and propose appropriate solutions and measures.

4. Child Protection Responsibilities (if assigned):

  • Identify child protection cases (abuse, violence, exploitation, etc.) referred by protection monitors, mobile teams, self-referrals, or other partners.
  • Establish effective working relationships with other child protection actors and facilitate timely referrals to entities with child protection expertise in case management (notably UNICEF and MOSAL).

5. Community Engagement and Activities:

  • Organize and conduct recreational, educational, and social activities in the Mobile team aimed at improving child wellbeing and confidence.
  • Promote protection principles and standards and conduct activities respectfully and sensitively towards beneficiaries and staff.
  • Ensure confidentiality and conduct all activities with respect and sensitivity to beneficiaries and staff.

6. Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Protection Officer in updating referral/service maps in close coordination with the existing coordination structure (PC, CP AoR, WP AoR).
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Diploma in Social Sciences or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in the field of social sciences, particularly in the humanitarian sector.
  • Deep knowledge of the principles and concepts of social support and human rights.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups of individuals and stakeholders.
  • Capability to assess the needs of individuals and communities and identify appropriate social support.
  • Effective task management skills, including the ability to work under pressure.
  • Decision-making skills related to directing social support and implementing effective measures.
  • Analytical ability to understand the social and cultural circumstances and their impact on individuals.
  • Motivational skills to encourage individuals to improve their social and psychological conditions.
  • Confidentiality and responsibility in handling data and information.
  • Native Arabic with good written and spoken English.
