Job Description

Communication officer: 

  • The Job Location:  Main office Taiz - (with travel to project location).
  • Period: 6 months, renewable subject to project availability 
  • Duty Station:  ROWAD Entrepreneurs Foundation, 
  • Terms: Full-Time Position (8 Eight hours per working day), 
  • Classification: Communication officer.
  • Line Manager: Project Manager /Executive Director 
  • Expected Start Date: As soon as possible.

ROWAD Entrepreneurs Foundation 

ROWAD is a not-for-profit Foundation that was officially registered in 2013. Since its establishment, ROWAD has been working on achieving economic development by supporting entrepreneurial activity in Yemen with the aim to address major challenges such as youth unemployment, food insecurity, access to education, and health through entrepreneurship and business creation. ROWAD is focused on the importance of developing a vibrant ecosystem that is supportive of local talent by cooperating with various stakeholders: government, NGOs, INGOs, educational institutions, and the private sector.
ROWAD is launching its first Social Innovation Lab (SIL), a collaborative initiative that addresses complex social challenges through innovative and creative approaches. The lab will bring together diverse stakeholders to develop and implement solutions that positively impact society. The Social Innovation Lab will be focused on agriculture and food security themes in the targeted areas. 
The Communications Officer (CO) will be in charge of managing the project's media relations and carrying out the project's media plan. He/she will be responsible for raising awareness about project-related approaches among the project stakeholders. S/he will be accountable for engaging counterpart organizations and also working with the affiliated parties to implement project activities. The Project CO will produce also press releases, and media advertisements, write media content and report to the project manager and the relevant funder, and ensure effective coordination of communication with all stakeholders to ensure support and advice are accurate, responsive, timely, and appropriate.

Major Accountabilities & Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager and Executive Director, the Communications Officer will be responsible for the development and implementation of the project media plan. More specifically, the CO will be responsible for the following:

  • Develop, support, and promote media project goals, including message development, profile, social media content creation, and media outreach.
  • Develop and disseminate public relations materials that increase project visibility among stakeholders, donors, and beneficiaries
  • Build and maintain relationships with journalists, bloggers, donors, beneficiaries, and audiences that will help advance projects' mission and work.
  • Prepare progress, monthly and final reports on the achievements of the projects Communication’s objectives. 
  • As directed by the project manager, provide quality control on all media reports, media materials, and other documents;
  • Attend meetings with stakeholders and project partners on an ad hoc basis regarding communications, and media-related issues;
  • Provide technical editing and formatting assistance with project deliverables and media reports;
  • Work with the project staff to raise public awareness of the project's innovative approaches
  • Manage online meetings using conference applications and tools.
  • Develop project communication plans.
  • Liaise with relevant staff to contribute to the success and achievement of project communication objectives.
  • Manage Podcast sessions
  • Show a willingness to perform other duties as assigned by the top management

EDUCATION 

  • A university degree in communications, marketing, or other related studies
  • At least 2 years experience working in communication with  NGOs or international NGOs, 

LANGUAGE:

  • Demonstrated high proficiency in English (reading, writing, and speaking)

TECHNICAL AND MANAGERIAL SKILLS:

  • Fluency in managing social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube) and other related supporting applications, including their analytic platforms
  • Expertise in Facebook advertising, Google AdWords, and other communication channels
  • Skill in computer equipment (computers, printers, scanners, photocopiers).
  • Skill in managing online meetings through various platforms (Zoom, Webex, Microsoft Teams)
  • Thorough knowledge and experience managing social media accounts.'
  • Strong digital and offline communication skills;
  • Through experience managing Webinars and online meetings.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience drafting materials for traditional media.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience with photography, podcasting, and videography, including editing graphic design.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively.
