  • Duration of Contract: 5 months / The cost of work is lump-sum, non-incapable and the employee liability does not end except with the closure of the project.

I.    Background

The Humanitarian Development Program (HDP) is a nonprofit and independent NGO in Yemen. It focuses on improving the quality of Yemeni people’s life through well-planned and comprehensive projects in WASH, Education, Food security & livelihood Shelter, CCCM, Protection, Health and related activities that strengthen underserved communities in all parts of Yemen with the flexibility to respond rapidly to emergencies.

Humanitarian Development Program (HDP) places human dignity at the center of its relief and development work. At the heart of the Program’s efforts to impact poverty and social justice. Vulnerable adults and children are particularly at risk of sexual exploitation and abuse. HDP defines the program’s commitment to the protection from sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA) of vulnerable adults, involving HDP Employees and Related Personnel. In recognition of the special vulnerability of children, also HDP affirms commitment to the welfare and protection from sexual exploitation and all forms of abuse of children, involving HDP employees and related personnel.
The Nutrition Officer will oversee and support the implementation of the Healthy Kitchen project, ensuring that meals are prepared in line with nutritional standards, cultural preferences, and program objectives. The Officer will also promote improved nutrition and dietary diversity and build the capacity of kitchen staff and local stakeholders to deliver sustainable and effective nutrition solutions.

Summary of the Project

The School Kitchen project aims to provide healthy and proper school nutrition for male and female students. The project targets 15,000 students in 20 schools in Taiz Governorate - Salah and Al-Mudhaffar Districts and is funded by the World Food Program (WFP) and partnership with Haeel Saeed Anam (HSA).

Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the direct supervision of Projects Manager, the Nutrition Officer, will undertake the following tasks:

Ensure the preparation of healthy, balanced and culturally appropriate meals in accordance with WFP nutrition guidelines and standards.

Monitoring the quality and nutritional value of meals produced in the healthy kitchen.

Supervise the provision of ingredients and monitor their quality to ensure the nutritional value and food safety of all meals.

Conduct regular assessments of the project’s impact on the nutrition of targeted beneficiaries.

Train and guide kitchen staff on food safety, healthy practices and preparing nutritionally conscious meals.

Develop and implement training sessions for community stakeholders on healthy eating, food preparation and the importance of dietary diversity.

Work closely with WFP, local partners and community organizations to align activities with overall nutrition objectives.

Engage with schools, health facilities and communities to ensure effective distribution and use of meals.

Maintain accurate records of meal production, distribution and beneficiary feedback.

Prepare regular progress reports for internal and external stakeholders, including WFP and project donors.

Raising awareness of the importance of nutrition and healthy diets within the community.

Support the development of educational materials to promote healthy eating habits among beneficiaries.

Ensure compliance with WFP and HCP guidelines, local regulations and international best practices in nutrition and food safety.

Perform any other tasks assigned by the direct manager.

II.    Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health or any related field.
  • Minimum 2-4 years experience in community nutrition programs, food production or similar roles preferred.
  • Knowledge of WFP programs and guidelines is an added advantage.
  • Familiarity with food safety standards and health practices.
