Purpose of the Position:
The Communications & Advocacy Assistant provides support to Yemen Mission under Program Coordinator in designing, developing, and implementing advocacy campaigns and events that carry messages about the humanitarian situation in Yemen with the aim of drawing attention to priority issues for the humanitarian actors. S/he will be responsible for the implementation of media plans and ensures that all media products and other related publications serves SIF objective and donors strategies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Identify opportunities from programs, to create impactful media and communications content.
- Collect Media and Communications inputs from a range of sources, including SIF program team and communication and advocacy focal points, and cross check, verify, corroborate, and analyze materials gathered.
- Carry out interviews, consultations, focus group discussions with SIF beneficiaries, staff, partners, civil society organizations and/or others and write human interest and success stories for SIF areas of operation.
- Collect and compile data (stories, photos, videos, etc.) from Program team and beneficiaries, field areas, and assist in drafting of media and policy products.
- Visiting the different field offices and supporting their advocacy, communication and media needs as required and agreed with the line manager.
- Work with the Senior Management Team and other program staff to ensure the integration of Advocacy, Campaigns and Media into program planning and implementation.
- Support the design of program visibility materials (banners, posters, IEC materials, logos … etc.) using graphic design software.

- Ensure that donor visibility requirements for programs are adhered to by program teams.
- Collect data, compile and prepare and disseminate SIF Situation Report on a monthly basis.
- Participate in updating SIF profile whenever required.
- Ensure that a good level of supervision to the communication and advocacy team is in place and provide technical support whenever required.
- Ensure that an effective capacity building plan for the communication and advocacy team is prepared and participate in the team’s capacity development.
- Prepare operational work plans and report the progress.
- Work effectively across the team, utilizing prioritization and multi-tasking skills.
- Any other tasks which may be requested to be undertaken within the scope of this position.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Advanced degree in communications, journalism, public relations, social sciences, international relations, or any other related field.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in communications at the national or international level, including experience in media relations preferably with INGOs/LNGOs
- Outstanding oral and written communications and editing skills, preferably with a history of writing for media, and ability to produce quality communication materials within tight deadlines.
- Ability to work with significant levels of autonomy and make prompt and sound decisions.
- Strong organizational and personal management skills, with ability to prioritize work issues to meet deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop and maintain relationships and work in complex teams/groups.
- Ability to work creatively, effectively and in an innovative manner and to identify and develop new ways to use the media to raise the voices of people affected by the conflict, poverty and inequality.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively to visit field-sites and document findings.
- Excellent communication skills, in written and verbal English and Arabic.
- Knowledge and usage of graphic design software.
