The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has been working in Yemen on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) since 1969. It opened its office in Sana’a in 1983. In order to deliver flexible support at a time of war and insecurity, GIZ operates in Business Continuity Management mode in Yemen.  Yemen is one of the nexus and peace partner countries of the German development cooperation. GIZ implements projects in the fields of water and sanitation, health, education, private sector, and employment, as well as good governance, peace, and local administration. At the same time we support measures to rehabilitate basic services for and enhance resilience of the local population, including particularly vulnerable groups such as internally displaced people. Our actions and decisions are guided by several core principles, the safety of our national colleagues as well as their well-being belonging to the most important ones. 

With immediate effect the GIZ Office invites applications from qualified Yemeni nationals for the following position: 

  • Position: Finance Specialist
  • End of Contract: 31.01.2026
  • Post Locations: Aden
  • Number of Positions : Two 

Overview of general tasks

  • Effectively coordinating with the staff of the finance team or the Commercial Affairs Department at GIZ Head Office
  • Performing tasks independently in compliance with GIZ’s Processes and Rules (P+R)
  • Support the financial planning, monitoring and accounting for GIZ-assisted projects
  • Where requested, processing of letters of credit 
  • Advisory services to projects, business partners and counterparts
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of country office processes
  • Monitoring real accounts (payables, receivables) and reporting regularly to his/her superior

Main activities include:

  • Responsibility for cash payments and deposits at the bank
  • Manage relations with GIZ‘s business bank in Yemen as agreed with superior 
  • Regular reconciliation of the cash book and cash account - reporting any surplus or shortfalls in cash
  • Checking all invoices for all contracts including the procurement of goods
  • Checking the eligibility of the expenditure list of financing agreements and local subsidies
  • Maintenance of the SAP data relating to invoice checks in GIZ’s software 
  • Obtaining confirmation of performance of services from the relevant officer responsible for the commission
  • Cross-checking the payments of staff salaries, lease contracts and subcontractor payments on schedule
  • Preparing transfers in e-banking, and issuing cheques for all accounts due
  • Supporting accurate daily, weekly and end-of-the-month closings in GIZ’s Accounting software
  • Processing fund requests for the project and forwarding funds to remote offices as required
  • Assisting all projects in preparing their balance reports of all project funds, inventory reports and the end of the year closing, ensuring that the financial administration functions in accordance with GIZ standard procedures
  • Handle tax-related issues with local tax authorities
  • Travel claim management: Calculating and monitoring travel advances, calculating travel claims, processing the settlement of travel expenses etc.
  • We expect a willingness to handle any additional task as assigned by the management, ensuring flexibility in responding to operational demands

Qualifications

  • University degree (Master, Bachelor or equivalent) in relevant specialization (Accounting and Auditing or related field

Professional experience

  • At least 5 years of working experience in a comparable position

Other Knowledge, Additional Competences

  • In-depth knowledge of accounting and accounting software, knowledge of GIZ specific processes and rules are a plus
  • Very good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, phone, fax, email, the internet) and computer applications. (e.g., MS Office); knowledge of GIZ software is a plus (CoSoft and Prosoft, Winpaccs) 
  • Confidential handling of data and information
  • Fluent Arabic and English, knowledge of German is an asset

  • Good communication and writing skills
  • Willingness to update skills including digital skills, as required by the tasks to be performed
