1. PURPOSE OF POSITION
We are seeking a motivated Communications Assistant to join our team in Aden, supporting the communications efforts for ARK’s USAID-funded programs in Yemen. Working closely with the Senior Communications Officer and the Communications Officer, the Communications Assistant will provide essential support in gathering content, organizing materials, and assisting with the production of communication products that demonstrate the impact of ARK’s work.
This position offers an excellent opportunity for an individual who is early in their communications career and keen to develop their skills while contributing to meaningful development programs in Yemen.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Content Support: Assist the Communications Officer in gathering content from program team members and grantees, including supporting field visits to collect human interest stories, success stories, and case studies.
- Photography and Videography Assistance: Provide support in capturing high-quality photography and video at program activity locations for use in success stories, social media, and monitoring and evaluation (M&E) purposes.
- Content Management: Help maintain a database of program videos and photographs in Microsoft SharePoint, ensuring files are well-organized and accessible.
- Media Coordination: Assist in managing relationships with photographers and videographers, ensuring they are briefed properly for program event coverage.
- Editing Assistance: Support the editing and organization of photography and videography products, ensuring they meet USAID and ARK branding requirements.
- Event Support: Assist in coordinating and branding program events such as workshops, press conferences, and other activities, ensuring communication materials are prepared and distributed.
- Branding Compliance: Help ensure the program’s communication materials comply with USAID visibility and branding guidelines.
- Administrative Support: Provide administrative support for the communications team, including scheduling meetings, managing communication materials, and assisting with procurement of public communication materials.
- Reporting Support: Contribute to the collection of information for weekly and quarterly reports, documenting program achievements in line with USAID requirements.
- Special Tasks: Undertake any other duties or special projects as assigned by the Senior Communications Officer or Chief of Party.

Essential
-
- A minimum of a diploma or bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Arabic.
- Demonstrated interest in communications, media, or public relations, with some prior experience (internships or volunteer work is acceptable).
- Excellent organizational skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Basic knowledge of photography and videography.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to learn and adapt quickly in a dynamic environment.
Desirable

- Experience using content management tools like Microsoft SharePoint or other cloud-based storage systems.
- Experience with editing software for photography and videography.
- Knowledge of USAID’s communication protocols and branding/marking.
- Understanding of the development sector and international development issues.
