DB Specialist job description
Responsible for managing and maintaining the organization's databases, ensuring their availability, security, and optimal performance. Handling tasks such as installing and configuring database systems, designing and implementing database structures, monitoring and optimizing database performance, troubleshooting issues, and performing data backup and recovery. Additionally, collaborating with stakeholders to understand their data needs, ensure data integrity and security, and implement best practices for data management. Staying updated with the latest database technologies and industry trends to continuously improve database systems and contribute to the organization's overall data strategy.
Job requirements
1. Installing and configuring database management systems (DBMS) like Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server, etc., and configure the database according to the organization's requirements.
2. Designing Databases, including the ability to create a well-organized schema by defining tables, relationships, and constraints in addition to improving the database structure to achieve effective performance.
3. Implementing security measures to protect the organization's data and setup user accounts with appropriate permissions and access rights also enforcing data privacy regulations and ensuring compliance with security standards.
4. Continuously monitoring database performance, proactively identifying and resolving issues such as slow queries or bottlenecks, while also optimizing the database through parameter tuning, table indexing, and SQL query optimization.
5. Implementing comprehensive backup and recovery strategies to guarantee database availability and data protection, including scheduling regular backups and performing data restoration in the event of system failures, data corruption, or human errors.
6. Planning and executing database upgrades to newer versions, as well as applying patches and fixes to address vulnerabilities and enhance database performance, ensuring thorough testing and validation of changes before deployment in the production environment.
7. Investigating and troubleshooting database-related problems, including analyzing error logs, diagnosing the root cause of issues, and promptly implementing effective solutions to resolve them.
8. Assessing database capacity requirements by considering data growth projections and usage patterns, and then planning and implementing strategies to accommodate increasing data volumes while maintaining optimal performance.
9. Archiving Data, based on factors such as data importance, compliance requirements, and storage capacity and implementing a strategy that includes separate storage and efficient organization for easy retrieval, while prioritizing data integrity and security.
10. Implementing, monitoring, and managing clustered environments, configuring and optimizing databases for clustering, performing backup and recovery, and conducting testing and validation to ensure availability, reliability, and performance.
11. Configuring, monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining data replication processes, ensuring efficient and reliable replication, troubleshooting issues, planning capacity, ensuring security and compliance, and conducting testing and validation.
12. Developing and implementing DR plans, configuring and managing backup and recovery systems, testing and validating DR strategies, monitoring DR readiness, collaborating with stakeholders, and continuously improving the DR strategy to ensure data protection and minimize downtime in the event of a disaster.
13. Participating in data migration projects, overseeing the data transfer from one system to another, validating data integrity, performing required transformations, and ensuring a seamless transition with zero data loss or downtime.
14. Maintaining comprehensive documentation pertaining to database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides, while also generating reports on database performance, capacity utilization, and security audits to facilitate management decision-making and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Qualification & Experience
1. Bachelor or Master degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
2. 3+ years of experience in Database Administration and managing multiple RDBMS on large systems.
3. Extensive experience writing stored procedures and query tuning on high transaction systems.
4. Ability to detect and troubleshoot DBMS related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other resource contention.
5. Excellent Knowledge of backups, restores, recovery models, database shrink operations, DBCC commands, Clustering, Database mirroring, Replication, Partitioning
6. Ability to develop procedure documents and maintain detailed database related documents.
7. Innovative approach to work, constantly looking for upgrading the system to more efficient and effective new technologies
8. Good reporting skills.
