Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Organizational Context and Scope:

Working under the overall supervision of the Project Assistant and site assistant will support and provide humanitarian assistance to persons in need.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

1.    Ensure community mobilization as necessary for different activities such as establishing community protection committees, meetings and focus group discussions, events, etc.
2.    Refer individual cases for assistance to service providers in the POC or to the Protection Officers/Assistants for their follow-up or action on the respective cases.
3.    Visit IDP households to identify persons with specific needs (PSNs) or to follow-up on identified PSNs under the supervision of the Protection Officers/Assistants.
4.    Support the Protection Officers/Assistants in the organization of trainings and workshops for the IDP population and relevant stakeholders on IDP rights, responsibilities, and other protection-related material.
5.    Assist the Protection Officers with the establishment of good working relationships with community activists, chiefs, and other relevant actors to encourage participation in, support for and a better understanding of the program activities. 
6.    Conduct daily visits around the IDP sites to observe, identify, and collect information on the situation of the internally displaced people (IDPs), taking into special account vulnerable people, noting and reporting on gaps that may exist in service provision.
7.    Support in community mobilization and formation of leadership structures, women’s committee, Community Protection Committees (CPCs), elderly and disabled committee, youth committee as well as other committees or groups.
8.    Ensure presence at the reception center or desk at the gate for new arrivals, guiding them through the process and identifying vulnerable individuals if any, taking note and reporting of the specific vulnerabilities and making regular follow up on them after allocation of plots.
9.    Conduct regular focus group discussions or other conversational forums with the community to understand their perceptions of service provision within the camp.
10.    Identify protection issues and report to the Protection Officer for referral to the relevant actors.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education:

  • High school diploma or bachelor’s degree (with one years’ Experience).

Experience:

  • Experience in the humanitarian sector preferable and working with vulnerable individuals.

LANGUAGES

  • Fluency in Arabic is required Working knowledge of English is an advantage.
