Specialized technician _ Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) (1 position)

Position status: Full time 
Location:  Ad Dahi Hospital – Ad Dahi District, Hodeida Governorate
Contract duration:  Six-months contract with the possibility to renew
    
Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, humanitarian, non-governmental organization providing assistance to people in need as a result of natural and man-made disasters, irrespective of race, religion, ideology or politics.
    
Main Purpose

Performing autonomously, specific complex / advanced installation, maintenance works and repairs depending on technician’s specialization (requiring special/qualifications/training), according to supervisor’s instructions and MSF standards and procedures, in order to ensure a proper functioning and maintenance of MSF equipment, installations and infrastructures

Accountabilities

Performing autonomously, all necessary complex / advanced installations, maintenance and repairs (i.e. requiring special qualifications/training), according to the supervisor’s instructions and executes any needed tests after any repair or maintenance. Including the following functions:  

• HVAC Technician
• Qualified Electrician
• Making suggestions regarding any repair or maintenance work needed in MSF electrical installations, equipment and/or vehicles and assisting logistics department for any relative work needed. 
• Managing the stock of HVAC consumable items, filling in the stock cards, carrying out physical stock inventories, executing orders necessary for renewing stock (3+1), avoiding any shortage.
• Responsible for the equipment and tools, including extinguishers, checking they are correctly and safely used, maintaining and renewing them when necessary and keeping the inventory updated. 
• Keeping working area clean and tidy.
• Ensuring that all record sheets and books related to logistical maintenance are always completed. Preparing needed reports before and after any repair or required maintenance.
• Immediately informing the line manager of any problems that arise in the course of the work, particularly with regard to damage, loss, theft or attempted break-ins
• Working in collaboration with other specialised technicians and workers, if necessary, or managing a small team of workers.

MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities

• In collaboration with the logistics department, to perform the needs assessment, planning, installation and monitoring of the HVAC systems in the project, using MSF standard tools 
• Performs installation of mechanical systems to include piping and modifications to existing facility’s cooling systems. 
• Ensuring the availability, use and updating of drawings, technical manuals, manufacturer's files and other records.
• Ensure that the general condition of the Air conditioning systems (indoor/outdoor units) is good and carry out the scheduled preventive maintenance;Cleaning the air filters of the AC units, 
  • Checking and cleaning the condenser coils:
  • Inspecting the refrigerant levels
  • Inspecting electrical components
  • Testing system performance
• Perform basic and advanced troubleshooting and repairs (corrective maintenance) of the project's air conditioning systems;
  • Diagnosing and repairing the problem 
  • Electrical/electronic faults in the indoor/outdoor units, 
  • Replacing faulty components (Compressor, condensors, coils, etc.) 
  • Gas leakages repair and refill
• Ensure the safety procedures and guidelines when working with electrical components and potentially hazardous refrigerants.
• Assist biomed in performing cold chain regualr maintenance and correcitve repairs (refrigators, freezers).
• To prepare monthly report about the HVAC incuding the maintenance chrongoram, brief of achivements, challenges and proposals.
• Assist logistics department for any related work as advised by the line manager 

Requirements

Education    

• Diploma in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Or Electrical/Electronic from recognized institutions

Experience    

• Demonstrate practical experience in his/her technical area (minimum 2 years’ experience) in cooling system, heating and ventilation which includes regular maintenance, minor and major repairs of the Air conditions split and non-split type.
• Essential at least two years previous working experience. Desirable in MSF or other NGOs with a proof of working certificate addressed/signed by the related NGO.

Languages        

• Arabic language essential, and English language with B1(intermediate) level essential.
