  • Reporting to: Deputy Executive Director  

ROLE PURPOSE: 

The Health and Nutrition Programs Coordinator is responsible for supporting the efforts in ensuring high-quality programming and implementation of health and nutrition activities. The H&N programs Coordinator is responsible for assisting technically with the design, development, and planning of H&N projects including contributing to strong quality systems to measure the impact of the programs. S/he provides technical advice and capacity support to field staff to ensure the H&N work is of high quality and contributes to achieving objectives of the programme, sector and organization.
In addition, the position is responsible for ensuring that key organizational principles and approaches, such as minimum standards, guidance documents and SoPs are well integrated throughout the project cycle. That lessons and evidence derived through implementation of projects are well articulated, documented and disseminated both internally and externally; and that engagement with key stakeholders achieves advocacy objectives to realize greater change for beneficiaries.

Responsibilities

Leadership and Strategy

  • Participate in strategic planning for the health and nutrition Program for Yemen response and ensure linkages into overall organization Strategic Plans and programming;
  • Assist with proposal development in the H&N sector in coordination with the Country Office and HQ support teams.
  • Work closely with the Deputy of Executive Director to ensure all H&N Projects are implemented according to approved SoPs and guidelines.
  • Ensure synergy and coordination while implementing all H&N projects. 

Program Management

  • Responsible for the implementation of the  Health and Nutrition project in order to meet the project objectives and outputs within allocated budget and within the allotted time frame, and report promptly any operational concerns to line manager; 
  • Ensure the effective management and development of the Emergency Health and Nutrition programs monitoring, review and evaluation of the situation and program and within the framework of the overall organization's emergency response.
  • Ensure proper communication, coordination and harmonization of tools with the different stakeholders involved in Health /Nutrition activities.
  • Ensure minimum standards are maintained following humanitarian relief and MoPH&P guidelines. (MISP, SPHERE,…, etc.)
  • Conduct weekly meetings with Health and Nutrition programs staff to monitor progress in implementation, exchange information, discuss challenges and plan forward.
  • Ensure that staff responsibilities are clearly defined, understood, and objectives are set against work plans and regularly monitored.
  • Identify learning and training opportunities for Health and Nutrition Programs staff and work to increase their competencies, capacities and own personnel development.
  • Undertaking field visits to provide guidance and supervision as well as to regularly monitor the progress of activities.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of activities for internal and external reports as requested.
  • Provide support and work closely with MEAL team in following up the implementation process of the projects.
  • Comply with organization policies and practices with respect to child protection, code of conduct, child safeguarding, health and safety, equal opportunity and other relevant policies and procedures.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by direct supervisor.

Team Management

  • Create and sustain a work environment of mutual respect where team members strive to achieve excellence;
  • Promote accountability, communicate expectations and provide constructive feedback during weekly progress review meetings;
  • Provide team members with information, tools and other resources to improve performance and reach objectives;
  • Provide technical support to organization staff, partners and government authorities on the planning, implementation and management of the Health and Nutrition projects;
  • Contribute to team-building efforts, help team members identify problem solving options and ensure the integration of all team members into relevant decision-making processes.

Finance & Compliance Management

  • Ensure compliance with donor and organization regulations related to Health and Nutrition programming;
  • Draft and review scope of work to manage any technical works, including review for technical efficacy and contract budget;
  • Ensure timely and quality implementation of activities in compliance with the defined project as well as organization and donor guidelines.
  • Participate in budget preparations and reviews, BvA Analysis, development of close to accurate cash projections and tracking spending and expenditures levels for all projects.

Security:

  • Ensure compliance with security procedures and policies as determined by country leadership.
  • Proactively ensure that team members operate in a secure environment and are aware of policies.
  • Work closely with the security focal point to analyze security situations and take appropriate measures for affective implementation of projects activities. 

Representation:

  • Maintain internal and external relationships to ensure program success including the different departments within the organization and contacts with authorities, UN agencies, INGOs ,and NNGOs working in the emergency sector, related to emergency programming, beneficiaries and the general public.
  • Identify, coordinate and partner with local and international partners;
  • Coordinate closely with the H&N representatives on national and hub levels and  other clusters as required.

Accountability to Beneficiaries:

  • Organization team members are expected to support all efforts towards accountability, specifically to beneficiaries and to the organization and donor standards guiding humanitarian assistance and development work, while actively engaging beneficiary communities as equal partners in the design, an quality implementation of projects.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree in medical science is mandatory, an advance degree in the same area such as master’s is an advantage, professional training in nutrition, and /or Pharmacy Management is an added value. 
  • At least 6 years of relevant experience with NGOs including 3 years in management position. 
  • English Language skills, with excellent expertise in oral and written Arabic language is a must.
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills.
  • Proven conceptual skills and an ability to plan strategically
  • Flexibility and ability to manage a complex and demanding workload
  • Excellent Report Writing proficiency skill is a must.
