  • Duration: one year (renewable), including 3-6  months probationary period.

Summary:

The Statistician Senior Officer is responsible to carry out statistical research in social, demographic, economic, geographical, environmental, and cultural areas and analyzing them, and providing a source of expertise and advice on the interpretation and communication of statistical data to support the unform SFD’s relevant as policies and strategy.

Key result area of Statistician Senior Officer:

1)    Using data analysis to provide objective basis for coordinated sectoral and geographical fund allocation.
2)    Participate in the elaboration of SFD’s periodical and annual work plans and budgets.
3)    Following SFD’s various units and Branch offices to insure timely and efficient use of allocated funds. 
4)    Data Analysis: Conducting statistical analysis of poverty related data sets to identify patterns, trends, and insights that inform decision-making in SFD.
5)    Research Design: Designing research studies and surveys that are scientifically rigorous and produce reliable data for SFD.
6)    Report Writing: Writing reports that communicate statistical findings and recommendations in a clear and concise manner for SFD.
7)    Quality Control: Ensuring the accuracy and completeness of data sets and statistical analyses through rigorous quality control processes.
8)    Data Visualization: Creating visual representations of statistical data that are easy to understand and interpret.
9)    Collaboration: Working collaboratively with other professionals, such as data experts, researchers, and subject matter experts, to ensure that statistical analyses are updated and aligned with SFD goals and objectives.
10)    Continuous Learning: Staying up-to-date with the latest statistical methods, tools, and technologies, and incorporating new knowledge into work practices in SFD.

Key Responsibilities:

1)    Develop and maintain objective sectoral and geographical found allocation under approval and supervision of SFD’s policies and projects committee (PPC). 
2)    Participate in the periodical and annual programming and budgeting for allocated resources and report on the progress of implementation.
3)    Develop and implement statistical data models to support data analysis and visualization.
4)    Design and conduct experiments, surveys and polls to collect data.
5)    Manage and maintain large datasets and develop and maintain databases and data systems necessary for projects and unit functions.
6)    Clean, validate, and transform data into formats suitable for analysis.
7)    Collect, analyze, and interpret statistical data on big datasets using software such as R, SAS, and SPSS software.
8)    Work with other team members to develop and maintain databases. And use software to develop spatial data models and perform demographic and geographical analysis and create maps and visualizations.
9)    Identify patterns and trends in data and provide recommendations based on findings. and Provide insights into complex data sets using statistical methods.
10)    Perform quality control and assurance on data and analysis results. and collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure data accuracy and integrity. and prepare reports, presentations, and other materials to communicate research findings to stakeholders. and Communicate findings and results to team members and clients.
11)    Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and advances in statistical methods, GIS techniques, and software, and provide technical support for GIS software and other tools used in data analysis.

Qualifications requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in statistics, economics, Social Sciences, Environmental Science, GIS, Computer Science, Geography, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Advanced certificate in statistics, data analysis or economics preferred.

Experience: 

  • 5+ years in statistical analysis, and GIS.
  •  The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the principles of statistical analysis, as well as experience with a variety of GIS tools and techniques.
  •   Participated in implementing statistical analysis, and/or participate in population census projects preferably.

Knowledge: 

  • The candidate should have sufficient knowledge in the field of social and humanitarian development surveys, especially in Yemen.

Competencies:

  • Statistical Analysis: The ability to apply statistical methods and techniques to analyze data, draw conclusions, and make recommendations based on the results. With strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Research Design: The ability to design research studies and surveys that are scientifically rigorous and produce reliable data.
  • Data Management: The ability to manage and manipulate large datasets, ensuring data accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  • Programming: The ability to use programming languages to analyze data and automate statistical processes such as.
    • Statistical analysis software (e.g., R, SPSS, SAS, STATA, etc.)
    • GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS, etc.)
    • Programing Python.
    • Excellent Microsoft skills especially Excel advanced analysis, Power BI, and SQL.
  • Data Visualization: The ability to create clear and effective visualizations of statistical data, such as charts, graphs, and maps.
  • Communication: The ability to effectively communicate statistical information and findings to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
  • Problem-Solving: The ability to identify problems, develop hypotheses, and apply statistical methods     to find solutions.
  • Quality Control: The ability to implement quality control processes to ensure the accuracy and completeness of data sets and statistical analyses.
  • Collaboration: The ability to work collaboratively with other professionals, such as data scientists, researchers, and subject matter experts, to ensure that statistical analyses are aligned with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Continuous Learning: The ability to stay up-to-date with the latest statistical methods, tools, and technologies, and incorporate new knowledge into work practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal interpersonal communication, negotiation skills, and presentation skills.  (Fluency in both Arabic & English is essential)

Other Requirements:

  • Holds Yemeni nationality.
  • A valid identity card and passport.
  • Available on a full-time basis as per SFD work system.
  • Able to travel inside and outside Yemen, some travels may be required.
  • Good conduct, with positive attitude.
  • Ability to work independently, and as part of a team.
