SUMMARY:

The Nutrition Assistant is responsible to Oversee implementation of project activities in nutrition CMAM and IYCF. She/he will be involved in training, supervising and assisting nutrition field staff to ensure the best possible nutrition services are delivered to children U5 and PLW. She/he will work in constant collaboration with the Nutrition Officer, Nutrition Coordinator, District and Governorate Ministry of health staff, the DHO, other local authorities and community members in order to share nutrition issues so as to improve/promote the nutrition of the vulnerable groups from the targeted communities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Nutrition Assistant will be responsible but not limited to:

  • Ensure proper and effective coordinate with GHO and DHO and other related authorities before and during nutrition project implementation.
  • With the support of nutrition officer, ensure the smooth implementation of a CMAM and IYCF activities.
  • Supervise and work in strict collaboration with the nutrition team in the screening activities of severely malnourished children (MAM and SAM) and PLW.
  • Support the health staff in severe malnutrition case management according to national guidelines.
  • Support the field nutrition staff in the implementation of CMAM/IYCF activities.
  • Participate in the conduction of nutrition research studies, Best practice documentation, success stories and best practices.
  • Develop and coordinate the adherence and reporting of nutrition education sessions.
  • Ensure the establishment and implementation of nutrition monitoring activities and train nutrition staff in case detection and referral system.
  • Ensure timely reporting in of activities in accordance with set deadlines.
  • Perform any other tasks as required by line manager or technical manager.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in health/nutritional science, dietetics, or food science is required.
  • One year experience in nutrition field and activities implementation.
  • Proven experience as a community nutrition Supervision.
  • Team working skills.
  • Keen interest in the impact of diet on health.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Strong communication skills, with excellent written and spoken English
  • Computer skills especially Ms. Office.
  • An understanding of biochemistry or human physiology
