Position Summary: The Pharmacist for Taiz, operating at Level 6 (Category F3), will play a critical role in managing pharmaceutical supplies and ensuring medication safety across targeted health facilities. The primary responsibilities include overseeing the storage, distribution, and quality control of essential medications and medical supplies to ensure their availability for treating acute malnutrition, communicable diseases, maternal health needs, and other essential health services. The Pharmacist will collaborate with healthcare providers, health and nutrition coordinators, and logistics teams to address medication needs, ensure compliance with health regulations, and prevent stockouts by maintaining inventory records and reporting on supply levels. This role ensures the efficient management of the pharmaceutical supply chain in line with project standards and guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Medicines and related supplies storage plans are developed prior to the arrival of medicines and related supplies, shared with procurement and logistics department and the programs department, and ensuring that the medical warehouse is prepared to receive the supply.
- Standard procedures and practices are followed at the medical warehouse and medicines and related supplies are properly received, stored, issued to the field teams, recorded, tracked and reported.
- Stock levels at the medical warehouse are monitored daily and actions taken to ensure appropriate stocking and replenishment of medicines and related supplies at the medical warehouse to maintain uninterrupted supply to the services delivery points.
- Expiry calendar of all the medical supplies is maintained, updated and shelf life is monitored regularly on monthly basis.
- Monthly consumption reports are generated and shared with the relevant Program/Project Managers.
- Ensure that no shortage of medicines and supplies in the targeted health facilities from the available stock.
- Collaborate with the medical and logistics team, ensures there is a supply process for medicines and medical material in the project that functions properly (procedures, etc.).
- Prepare the medical orders in coordination with the Health and Nutrition Assistant and Project Manager.
- Guarantees the implementation and proper use the DEEM and MOPH’s standards of pharmacy management and monitoring tools (daily follow up and recording form, order forms, Reporting forms, inventory forms, etc).
- Ensures that projects’ pharmacies are organized and managed properly.
- Participates in the set-up of new pharmacies in the health facilities and defines how they should be run.
- Appropriate and safe method is used for the disposal of medicine, medical supplies and other hazardous materials
- Perform regular inventory of medical and non-medical items in the HFs’ pharmacists and DEEM’s warehouses.
- Perform any other tasks as required by the line manager, program manager, or technical manager.
- Participate in team meetings, ensuring clear communication of pharmacy-related issues and progress.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills:
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Pharmacology.
Experience:
- At least 3 years of experience in pharmacy management, ideally with NGOs or in humanitarian contexts.
- Ability to stay at the field.
Competencies:
- Participate in team meetings, ensuring clear communication of pharmacy-related issues and progress.
- Must have experience with ordering and tracking medical procurements.
- Must have experience with warehousing and assembling medical and surgical kits.
- Must have excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
- Must have the ability to work effectively with various personalities and cultures.
- Proficient in MS word, excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
- Oral and written Language skills in English.
