Job Description
For our program in Yemen, we are looking for a Psychologist, the position will be based in Aden with field visits.

Job Purpose
Under the hierarchical management of the Medical Team Supervisor, and technical management of MHPSS supervisor and with the close collaboration with the Health and Protection teams, the psychologist will be responsible for providing mental health and psychosocial support interventions to individuals based on the identified mental health and psychosocial needs. He/ She will be responsible in building referral links to MdM health and protection service providers and to external mental health specialized services. He/ She contributes to the community-level psychosocial support activities and to the data collection.
- Deliver MHPSS services through individual consultations.
- Participate in internal and external capacity building sessions, meetings, trainings as needed.
- Participate in data collection and reporting.
- Provide technical support to the community volunteers (CVs) to effectively carry out community activities such as awareness raising and corresponding referrals.
Main activities
TASK ONE: Provide targeted mental health and psychosocial support services
Individual MHPSS consultations:
- Provide mental health and psychosocial support to individuals with mild to moderate symptoms and PSS needs following interventions such as Problem Management plus(PM+), Doing what matters in times of stress, or intervene within level 1 to 3 of the IASC MHPSS intervention pyramid.
- Adhere to MdM MHPSS framework, MdM Yemen mission MHPSS SOPs and international guidelines such as the IASC MHPSS guidelines when delivering MHPSS interventions.
- Work with individuals to develop individualized therapeutic plans based on the MHPSS needs identified.
- Provide psychoeducation to family members of individuals with severe mental health needs to help them provide ongoing support.
- Provide child counseling sessions involving child's parents/caregivers through offering family counseling or psycho-education sessions.
Case Management:
- Provide appropriate internal and external referrals, follow up, monitor all referral cases, and ensure timely turnaround of assessment reports and other needed interventions.
- Receive and manage referrals from or to health and protection or others.
- Provide appropriate referrals for specialized mental health care and coordinate with the MHPSS Supervisor where necessary.
- Contribute to the development of a referral mechanism between MdM and other partners.
- Develop safety plans for individuals at risk of suicide/self-harm or risk to others.
- Collect beneficiary data documentations
- Maintain and promote individual’s confidentiality and ensure informed consent when referring for other services.
- Work closely with the MHPSS supervisor and -MHPSS Co-if needed for cases in need of specialized mental health care and at risk cases.
TASK TWO: Support the community volunteers (CVs) and other staff members to provide awareness raising, identification of individuals in need of MHPSS services and corresponding referrals.
- Participate in the identification and selection of Community Volunteers (CVs).
- Working closely with the MHPSS supervisors in providing regular capacity building of Community Volunteers (CVs) and other staff members in Mental Health related topics.
- Providing technical support and supervision to the Community Volunteers (CVs) and other staff members-if needed- through regular follow-ups.
TASK THREE: Reporting
- Provide timely progress reports, including both quantitative and qualitative information, on MHPSS interventions and activities.
- Being in charge of the MHPSS materials and making the liaise with the logistic department for the procurement of the needed activities items based on MDM guidelines.
- Immediate reporting for at risk cases.
- In close collaboration with the MHPSS supervisor, contribute to the MHPSS data and reports
- Report any incident or act that causes any harm to beneficiary or to others.
TASK FOUR: Capacity building:
- Participate in capacity building sessions conducted by the MHPSS supervisor and MHPSS Co or other MDM staff members.
- Receive technical inputs and regular supervision from the MHPSS supervisor.
- Propose, develop and implement capacity building training on topics related to MHPSS to the MHPSS supervisor or MHPSS coordinator.
- Participate in weekly supervision sessions facilitated by the MHPSS Supervisor or peer supervision sessions.
- Participate in Yemen MHPSS TWG monthly meetings upon request.
TASK FIVE: Demonstrate ethical and professional practice:
- Document all beneficiary data accurately using the MHPSS data collection tools and ensure they are under lock.
- Record the beneficiary and activity data accurately according to the guidelines, ensuring data protection.
- Ensure that the MHPSS tools is accurately updated on a regular basis.
- Respect individuals’ confidentiality at all times
- Do no harm
- Ensure the safety and security of all beneficiaries.
- Respect and promote MdM Polices and code of conduct
- Address needs and requests of individuals in a respectful and professional manner
- Always interact with children in the presence of their parents or caregivers.
- Always respect individual’s right to choose if to take part in any MHPSS service.
- Maintain good professional relationships with national and international partners.
- Attend MdM team meetings and to give qualitative inputs.
- Flexibility in performing his/her duties to ensure that individuals are getting good quality services.
PROFILE REQUIRED
Qualification required:
- Bachelor Degree in Psychology or counselling.
- Diploma in clinical psychology is preferred.
- Training on PM+, Resilience group, Family Psychoeducation, child and adult individual counselling, support groups.
Skills required:
- Minimum two years of experience in similar position with INGOs
- Experience working with individual counseling for adult and children, PM+ approach, and resilience groups
- Minimum Two (2) years professional experience, preferably in the NGO sector.
- Good interpersonal skills

- Flexibility and Work under pressure
- Willing to stay in the areas of intervention.
