Médecins Sans Frontières France is looking for Yemeni nationals to recruit for the following position:
LABORATORY SUPERVISOR
Location: Haydan hospital – Saada governorate.
Contract type: Full time contract.
Opening date: 17/09/2024
Main task:
Planning, organizing and carrying out laboratory activities and supervising the laboratory staff according to MSF protocols, security measures and hygiene standards, in order to support the MSF medical team in the diagnosis of patients’ diseases.
- Ensuring the compliance of MSF hygiene and safety protocols, both individually and collectively (i.e. required uniforms and equipment, hygiene and universal precautions, etc.) as well as informing staff of existing biological risks.
- Ensure good laboratory practices in infection control (IC) with special attention on preventing exposures and immediately reporting when such things occur.
- Supervising laboratory tests performance and sample collection carrying out (serology, hematology, biochemistry, bacteriology, parasitology, blood bank ...) in accordance with prescriptions as well as ensuring that quality control tests are carried out regularly. Informing the doctor of the results of the tests and keeping a record of the analysis with data from patients.
- Ensuring proper registration and records of all lab-related activities
- Ensuring that results are communicated to the medical departments in a timely manner
- Ensuring that SOPs are being followed to promote quality practices and management system including – sample collection, sample transportation, result processing and transmission, quality assurance and quality controls.
- Supervising the daily lab activities and prepare training materials and provide classroom training and on-job mentorship.
- Ensuring proper management (cleaning, maintenance, arranging) of all laboratory equipment, ensuring adequate supply of needed equipment and material in order to prevent stock-outs. This includes being responsible for all required automatic instrument calibration, ensuring that no material is taken out of laboratories without prior authorization and carrying out a proper storage system and conditions, inventory, etc. In cooperation with logistics department, ensuring that cold chain is properly maintain and the temperature is monitored and registered daily in laboratory areas for both, samples and reagents.
- Ensuring that all staff using medical devices are qualified and trained.
- Ensuring cleaning, daily quality control and minor maintenance tasks are performed according to the protocols. Reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service.
- Ensuring proper registration and needs of all lab related activities and implementing a correct use of the associated management tool (EpyTryp. Etc.) in order to have a proper recording of laboratory activities.
- Producing regular reports on the testing and on any issues / problems related to laboratory personnel and / or the material used.
- In close collaboration with the logistic and medical department, coordinate the transportation of samples to an external lab and the results.

- In collaboration with the MOH, ensure close follow up of MOH lab technicians
- Participation in all meetings related to medical activities and share the report concerning the achievement challenged regarding the activities
- Monthly organization of the Blood Transfusion Committee with providing the understandable Monthly Activities Report concerning the Laboratory Activities, monitor the quality indicators and all documentation related to the blood transfusion process, when related to the lab team.
- Monthly participation to the IPC and ABS Committee
- Work in close collaboration with the pharmacy team on making the weekly inventory on the Reagent and Laboratory material and share with the pharmacy for pharmacy related materials and Log/Biomed for the logistic one.
- Work in close collaboration with the data officer and collect the weekly/ monthly blood bank/ lab data
- Organize regular meetings with the lab staff for updates/problem solving and prepare meeting minute.
- Support the staff under his/her direct supervision in management of his/her team including HR needs, prevention and resolution of conflicts, mentoring and coaching, team building. Fill the gap of Lab technician when necessary.
- Planning and supervising, with the support of the HR department, the associated HR processes (update HR Needs, recruitment, training/induction, evaluation/bilan, potential detection, motivation, development and internal communication) of the team under his/her responsibility, in order to ensure having the appropriate team in terms of size, capabilities and skills.
- Report to the direct supervisor any problem arising in the service, especially the loss / robbery / damage of medical equipment or medicines in order to implement the appropriate measures.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- Essential degree as laboratory Technician.
- Essential 2 years’ experience in a laboratory, preferably as Lab supervisor.
- Experience in management of blood bank
- Experience in MSF or another NGO, desirable in a clinical laboratory.
- Spoken and written English & Arabic is essential
