Position: MHPSS Assistant
Location: Taiz
Grade: 5
Contract Length: 12Months
The Opportunity:
The CP MHPSS Assistant will be responsible for Support MHPSS officer in providing and/or ensuring provision of MHPSS and PM+ services to vulnerable and at risk children, their families and communities in the community, CFSs, community centers and schools using any of the SCI MHPSS models including child and youth resilience, HEART, PM+, structured play and recreation, home-based care, individual counselling, group counselling, among others.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Program Implementation:
- Facilitate the planning and rollout of of SCI MHPSS models, including child and youth resilience programs, HEART, PM+, structured play and recreation, home-based care, individual and group counseling, ensuring adherence while ensuring MHPSS and child protection principles and standards are followed and complied with.
- Enhance the capacity of MOSAL MHPSS facilitators and key stakeholders by training them on MHPSS integration into their daily work with vulnerable and at-risk children, caregivers, and their communities.
- Collaborate with the CP/MHPSS officer to conduct assessments, understand the MHPSS needs of children, caregivers, teachers, and community members, and use the findings to develop appropriate MHPSS prevention and response interventions.
- Work closely with the CP/MHPSS officer to create and implement tools for MHPSS interventions, as well as measure the impact of SCI and partner MHPSS initiatives.
- Conduct a mapping of MHPSS services across different locations and maintain relationships with MHPSS service providers for to facilitate cross-referrals.
- Ensures that case management staff are appropriately reflecting MHPSS support in their daily work with children and caregivers.
- Provide appropriate tailored/focused counselling support for cases with mental and psychological support that may require such support.
- In coordination with appropriate CP and other sectoral staffs participate in the monitoring and evaluation of MHPSS interventions/services.
- Conduct regular visits to project sites to support MHPSS interventions and conduct counseling sessions for children, caregivers, and other stakeholders.
- Compile the weekly and periodic data, as appropriate, of cases supported with MHPSS services and Provide high quality periodic reports as may be required from time to time.
- Carryout other duties as assigned by the line manager.
General:
- Deliver results in line with the current proposals and Save the Children’s strategy
- Comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to safeguarding policy and code of conduct, MHPSS and child protection principles and standards
- Ensure that the minimum standards of humanitarian relief are maintained in accordance with the Sphere Charter and Red Cross Code of Conduct.
- Perform such other responsibilities as agreed with line management.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Bachelors degree in social sciences, social work or community development. Bachelor’s degree in psychology will be added advantage.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Required:
- 2 years experience in a similar post.
- Experience in having implemented psychosocial support programmes
- Experience of working directly with children and/or adolescents
- Training skills, ability to conduct trainings
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Capacity to work with a team and to work under pressure.
- Computer skills in word, excel, PowerPoint.
- Strong organizational and planning skills with good communication skills
- Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
Desirable:
- Oral and written Language skills in English.
- Registration with a relevant professional authority in Yemen.
- Experience or knowledge of working and living in relevant regions/contexts NGO or humanitarian programming experience.
