MSF Spain is advertising for the following position: MIDWIFE SUPERVISOR

Requirements for the position

Education:    

• Essential: Bachelor degree in Midwifery.
• Essential: valid work permit as midwife from Yemen medical council ( in Sanaa )

Experience:    

• Essential: previous expeirence in the relevant field , desirable to have a minimum of 2 years of experience having experience in a similar position is a plus
• Desirable previous experience with MSF or other NGOs

Languages:    

• Essential: English and Arabic

Other:    

• Essential: intermidiate level in microsoft profeceincy ( microsoft word / excel ) , desirebale : advanced level

Description

• Place of work: Mother and Child Hospital, Al-Qanawis District, Hodeidah Governorate, Republic of Yemen
• Level: 8
• Duration: Until the end of the year with possibility to extension subjected to a probationary period according to the Yemeni Labour Law.

Main objectives    

Supervising the clinical activities and guaranteeing the quality of midwifery care in the department, according to MSF protocols, values, and universal hygiene standards in order to provide a high-quality Mother and Child Health (MCH) care to the population.

Main responsibilities and tasks    

• Supervising, supporting and evaluating the team under his/her responsibility particularly midwives, midwife assistants and other related staff in her team such as cleaners. Planning and organizing their work (areas, days, absences, visits, holidays, etc.) and coaching them in their work with special focus in following all appropriate protocols and procedures
• Ensuring teamwork and a professional relationship between maternity and other departments.
• Supervising the clinical activities in all the maternity departments, pre delivery, delivery and post-delivery follow-up, new-born care and liaising with the Medical Doctor about the patients who need special care, visiting hours, etc.
• Ensuring that the staff on duty knows, implements and follows at all times the universal hygiene standards/ precautions, bio-hazard prevention and infection control in the medical premises ensuring high standards of hygiene in the working environment
• Ensuring that all staff using medical devices are qualified and trained, cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performed according to the protocols, reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service.
• Being responsible for the department-related pharmacy activities (stock and consumption monitoring) as well as maintenance of the medical equipment
• Being responsible for ensuring that all the administrative procedures, patients’ data and documents are filled in correctly and registered for compiling monthly reports reflecting the activity in the department.
• Active implementation of training and mentoring of the other midwifes aiming to achieve full implementation of MSF obstetric protocols
• Ensure that the newborn babies are followed up correctly since delivery and until discharge, making sure all babies are receiving the vaccination at birth.
• Ensure and supervise the implementation of protocols by all staff she is in charge of, in order to improve the quality of the healthcare given to population and prevent any infection.
• Responsible for all biomed equipment in her department. Reporting of any malfunction to her supervisor.
• Medical round to check all patients in the maternity, ensuring that controls are done for all patients especially the complicated ones.
• Ensure all post c-sections patients are up appropriatelly reporting of any change in the patients’ status.
• Responsible for the pharmacy in her department. Ensure daily consumption of drugs is done, and report of any lost. Prepare the request for the central pharmacy taking into account stocks and consumption
• After discharge, ensure the patients files are classified per month and kept in a lock cupboard, after veryfying data is complete in the file and in the register book.
