Training and Grant Consultant is responsible for assisting project beneficiaries in establishing small income-generating projects. This involves providing guidance, support, and advice on initiating and managing small projects based on the specific needs and absorptive capacity of each group.

About us

WAR CHILD Alliance established a mission in Yemen in 2016, initially starting its programming with the implementation of projects for the provision of food assistance to ensure children have access to food and are able to meet their basic nutritional needs. WAR CHILD Alliance  - YEMEN later expanded its programming to include education and protection-integrated activities. Today, WCA–YEMEN has two registered offices in Sana’a and Aden governorates and continues to work with local partners and stakeholders across the country to support and improve children’s well-being to ensure they can access relevant protection services, education, and livelihood opportunities.

Your role

Reporting to the  FSL assistant, the Training and Grant Consultant will support the delivery of safe, timely, and quality food security activities in  FSL. Their primary responsibility is to ensure the successful execution of safe, timely, and high-quality initiatives aimed at enhancing food security. One of the key tasks of the Training and Grant Consultant is to assist project beneficiaries in the creation of micro-enterprise projects. This entails offering comprehensive guidance, support, and advice tailored to the unique requirements and absorptive capacity of each group.  

Your responsibilities

Programme Quality and standards 

• Conduct regular visits to institutes and provide advisory services to 150 trainees.  
• Utilize expertise in business development to guide beneficiaries in various areas such as legal, marketing, financial, administrative, and technical aspects. This includes:  
• Assisting beneficiaries in identifying business opportunities.  
• Providing advice on legal requirements for business establishment.  
• Introducing beneficiaries to relevant sources of information regarding technology, funding machinery, and equipment.  
• Offering guidance on modern marketing methods for small businesses.  
• Providing advice on project accounting practices.  
• Advising on effective project management.  
• Monitoring support to trainers 
• Prepare monthly reports on the progress of the project (6 reports in total).  
• Include success stories, if any, in the monthly reports.  
• Adhere to reporting formats approved by the War Child Organization.  
• Conduct 36  group sessions for 150 trainees over 3 months (April  2024 to June 2024), with each session lasting at least 2 hours.  
• Be available for direct daily communication with beneficiaries when needed.  
• Ensure the effective utilization of the advisory services provided to beneficiaries.  
• Prepare the consultancy sessions plan and discuss it with the FSL Officer/WCA to approve it and adhere to the agreed-upon plan during implementation.  
• Make recommendations to enhance the efficiency and success of beneficiary projects.  
• Adhere to professional ethics, and honesty, and avoid any conflicts of interest or business relations with beneficiaries.  
• Commit to providing full-time advisory services.  
• Develop appropriate training activities, and exercises, and evaluate their technical quality.  
• Review and propose improvements to training materials according to trainee needs and market demands.  
• Hold meetings with project management to gain a clear understanding of the advisory function and expected outcomes.  
• Create a guide for capacity building procedures, encompassing preparation, establishment of small enterprises, and related procedures.  
• Document sessions and prepare reports while following the safeguarding policy of the War Child Organization.  
• Participate in the preparation and design of grants for beneficiaries based on the training provided, both during and after the training sessions.  

Safeguarding and safe programming

• Signs and adheres to the organization’s code of conduct and child safeguarding and protection policies
• Communicates with colleagues, partners, stakeholders, and affected populations with transparency, empathy, respect, and integrity.
• Contribute to creating a culture committed to the safeguarding of children and adults and compliant to WCA’s Child Safeguarding and Adults at Risk Policies.

Reporting

• Support drafting quality monthly narrative and quantitative reports to the line manager.
• Contribute to donor mid-term and final reports.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: 

• Completion of an Entrepreneurship diploma is desirable.  Or Bachelor's degree in business Administration 
• Minimum of two years of experience in providing advisory services to small businesses.  
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  
• Proficiency in English is preferred.  
• Ability to prepare reports.  
• Experience with technical education and vocational training institutes is preferred. 
• Minimum of 2 years previous job experience related to income generation activities E.G (Motorcycle Maintenance, Maintenance and installation of Home solar energy systems, car mechanic,  car electricity,  Food industries and pastry,  Vegetable cultivation and greenhouses,  Manufacture of detergents, incense and perfumes,  Iron forming and welding,  Stitching, and detailing).
