Position: MHPSS Project Officer
Location: Taiz
Grade:4b
Contract Length: 11 months


The Opportunity:


The CP Psychologist Officer (PSO) will be responsible for providing and/or ensuring provision of MHPSS services to vulnerable and at risk children, their familie and communities in the community, CFSs, community centrres and schools using any of the SCI MHPSS models including child and youth resilience, HEART, structured play and recreation, home-based care, individual counselling, group counselling, among others. The CP Psychologist Officer (PSO) will be counselling children who suffer or at risk of Mental and psychological problem.   The MHPSS Officer will work in close collaboration with other colleagues in child protection, education, health, nutrition as well as otger sectors and ensures integrated services and contextualized MHPSS messaging for children, caregivers and the communities.


Key Areas of Responsibilities:


•   Support the planning and rollout of SCI MHPSS models including child and youth resilience, HEART, structured play and recreation, home-based care, individual counselling, group counselling, among others while ensuring MHPSS and child protection principles and standards are followed and complied with.
•   Build capacity of child protection staff, case management staff, other sectoral staff and community volunteers and key stakeholders on MHPSS and how to integrate MHPSS in their day to day work with vulnerable and at-risk children, caregivers and their communities.
•   Assess MHPSS capacity building needs among SCI CP and other sectoral staff, community structures, caregivers, teachers and children themselves and develop and implement capacity building plans.
•   Work with the CP/MHPSS Specialist to develop and conduct assessment to understand the MHPSS needs of children, caregivers, teachers and community members and use the results to develop appropriate MHPSS prevention and response interventions.
•   Work closely with CP/MHPSS Specialist to develop appropriate tools to rollout/implement MHPSS interventions as well as measure the impact of SCI and partners MHPSS interventions.
•   Conduct a mapping of MHPSS services in different location and develop and sustain relations with different MHPSS services providers of non-specialised and specialised services to facilitate cross referrals. 
•   Ensures that case management staff are appropriately reflecting MHPSS support in their daily work with children and caregivers.
•   Provide appropriate tailored/focused counselling support for cases with mental and psychological support that may require such support.
•   In coordination with appropriate CP and other sectoral staffs participate in the monitoring and evaluation of MHPSS interventions/services.
•   Conduct regular visits to the field project sites to support MHPSS interventions/services and to conduct counselling sessions for children of concern, caregivers and other stakeholders. 
•   Compile the weekly and periodic data, as appropriate, of cases supported with MHPSS services. 
•   Provide high quality periodic reports as may be required from time to time.
•   Participate in the development of lessons learnt and best practices.
•   Provide timely MHPSS inputs to programme and donor reports in compliance with internal Save the Children requirements and any relevant external donor requirements.
•   Maintain positive coordination and relationships with partner and other SCI sector staff.
•   Carryout other duties as assigned by the supervisor to enable and develop SCI MHPSS interventions/servcies.
General:
•   Deliver results in line with the current proposals and Save the Children’s strategy 
•   Comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to safeguarding policy and  code of conduct, MHPSS and child protection principles and standards 
•   Ensure that the minimum standards of humanitarian relief are maintained in accordance with the Sphere Charter and Red Cross Code of Conduct.
•   Perform such other responsibilities as agreed with line management.


Monitoring, Evaluation and Accountability and Quality
With support from the MEAL team and the CP Coordinator
•   Implement M&E systems in the project site s/he is responsible for, and ensure that the agreed tools are used properly.
•   Conduct regular field monitoring visits according to requirements and plans then report back with the findings to the Project Manager.
•   Conduct QLE assessments and report back to the Project Coordinator 
•   Actively monitor Child protection activities at targeted location, ensuring quality of Save the Children’s programme, reporting and flagging concerns to CPC
•   Ensure that communities are regularly involved in all phases of the programming


Qualifications and Experience:


Essential:
•   Qualified Education professional in psychology study with experience for at least 3 years in implementing Child programs (preferably in an Emergency field).
•   Teaching/Training skills
•   Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
•   Capacity to work with a team.
•   Capacity to work under pressure.
•   Computer skills in word and excel
•   Commitment to the aims and principles of Save the Children. In particular, a good understanding of the Save the Children mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support
•   Good English language skills.
