Requirements for the position

Education:    

  • Bachelor Degree in (midwifery, nursing or anesthesia technician) .

Experience:    

  • Essential: minimum two years in a similar/relevant job.

Level:    8
Duration: Contract until the end of 2024 with possibility of extension, subjected to 6 months of probationary period.

Main objectives:

Plan, organize, and evaluate the activities concerning nursing and the team associated, according to MSF values, policies and protocols and universal health standards, in order to warrant the quality and continuity of the health care and the development of the plan of action.

Accountability    

  • Carry out the functions and tasks associated to nursing i.e. perform as a nurse or anesthetist nurse, whenever required or needed, in order to optimize the resources, contributing with his/her knowledge and experience.
  • Implement all the protocols and hygiene procedures, and supervise his/her team follow the same standards, in order to warrant the quality of the care and service in his/her speciality.
  • Organize and coordinate the activities of his/her team (week’s schedule, annual leave, absences, etc.), evaluate their performance and define and ensure the needs for training of staff, in order to ensure the coverage of the human resources needs and maintain high standards of quality.
  • Carry out and/or supervise the ( decentralized) pharmacy and medical equipment management (drugs orders, follow-up of the stock, storage conditions, inventories, follow-up of expired drugs and their destruction, drugs consumption, etc.)in his or her department, in order to satisfy the needs of material with efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Ensuring that all staff using medical devices are qualified and trained. Ensuring that cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performed according to the protocols. Reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service.
  • Carry-out and/or coordinate administrative (exit-paper, transfer-paper, etc.), information and data collection (patient files, forms, statistics, etc.) tasks, and elaborate regular reporting, in order to have updated and reliable information about the day-to-day activity in the project, output/ outcome and support decision-taking.
  • Give feedback/ reports to medical focal point.

Main responsibilities and tasks    

  • Provide supervision mainly during night shifts of the medical staff of the hospital including Midwives, nurses, and laboratory technicians
  • Help with the management of resources (equipment, supplies, staff) between hospital departments to help manage needs and ensure good patient care
  • Communicate issues or urgent concerns with the appropriate manager within an appropriate time frame (immediately for urgent things, the next morning for less urgent issues)
  • Collaborate with department supervisors to provide consistant messages and support for the staff
  • Assist with the contacting of specialists when necessary
  • Maintain and promote IPC and hygiene procedures: demonstrate good IPC measures and apply IPC recommendation; ensure staff is respecting IPC, and provide instructions when required (handwashing, PPE, linen policy, biomed equipment); report challenges to IPC supervisor and NAM.
  • With the support of the IPC Supervisor, coach and follow up IPC focal point to support activities.
  • Help to manage and promote cooperation between teams (medical and logistic), between MSF and MoH, and between hospital departments
  • Be able to receive concerns/complaints from patients and manage them appropriately (resolve the issue, bring to the attention of the appropriate person, etc)
  • Ensure proper handover is being done between shifts (day/night, night/day)
  • Participate in nursing care when required, particularly during critical case management. Ensure good nursing care is performed by leading the nursing activities.
  • Supervise and manage the pharmacy activity and medical equipment with efficency according to MSF standards and protocols: Responsible for monitoring wards pharmaceutical consumption during night time. Report any irrational consumptions to NAM. Monitor expiration dates of ward stock and return any expired items to central pharmacy at morning time.
  • Ensure control of narcotic and psychotropic medications on the unit. Report to NAM any discrepancies in physical/theoretical stock counts.
  • Communicate with the supervisors or managers in other departments when needed e.g. issues with new admissions, borrowing of pharmacy etc.
  • Share weekly the activities/challenges in the departments through a weekly report.
  • Participate in daily review of registration books and files to support the supervisors in the weekly data collection.
  • Complete and share the night report at the end of the shift ensuring it is appropriate and thorough.
  • Attend biweekly medical meeting and monthly IPCC meeting when possible.
