An Overview about ADO

Abs Development Organization for woman and Child (ADO) is a well-established national, humanitarian, developmental, non-profit and non-governmental organization, founded in August 1996 by a group of Yemeni girls to provide a better life for women, children, and youths. ADO has been operating in Yemen for more than 27 years with an outstanding coverage to the deprived rural areas located on the coast of Tehama and other various areas in Yemen aiming to get rid of poverty and infectious diseases. Since its inception, ADO has implemented over 213 developmental and humanitarian projects. According to ADO latest cumulative statistics, by end of the year 2021, a total of  6,695,412 people were benefited from these interventions. Consequently, the organization has established itself among the most effective civil society organizations in Yemen that are working on issues related to livelihood, health, education, and WASH supporting women, children, and youth. Operating from its Headquarter office in Sana’a, and through its branch offices in Al Hodeida, Hajjah, Abs, Raymah Taiz and Aden, ADO provides educational, health, livelihood and WASH services to urban and rural communities. As ADO believes that women are the essence of life, it has devoted all its activities and programs to empower and educate women who will lead to a modern and just state. ADO also believes that protecting and caring for children will result in a prosperous future; free from crime and terrorism. Furthermore, ADO believes that youth are the potential and driving force of any modern civil society.

Job objectives/ Scope: 

As a Media Officer, he/she will be a key player in shaping and executing the organization's communication strategy. The primary responsibility will be to develop and implement effective media campaigns, manage relationships with media outlets, and create compelling content across various platforms. By leveraging her/his skills in storytelling, public relations, and digital media, he/she will contribute to enhancing the organization's visibility, fostering positive public perception, and ensuring consistent messaging aligned with organizational goals. This role requires a creative and strategic communicator with a deep understanding of media trends, a knack for building relationships, and a passion for advocating for the mission and values of the organization.

Reporting to: Quality, Development & Research Manager

Supervised Staff: Media officers

Duties and Responsibilities
    
1.    Assist in the elaboration and implementation of the ADO communications strategy.
2.    Design, elaboration and implementation of the media strategy, and high quality and result-based media events.
3.    Facilitation of knowledge building and sharing.
4.    Conducting studies to understand donor requirements/needs.
5.    Preparation and linguistic review (including translation) of all news, reports, data, bulletins, publications and letters issued in the name of the organization.
6.    Promoting the organization's projects and searching for funding sources under the supervision of the Finance manager.
7.    Preparing documentaries for projects that the organization is working on.
8.    Follow up on the situation of beneficiaries or children affected by the war and submit detailed reports on their condition alongside success stories.
9.    Preparing Under the supervision of the direct manager and in coordination with the rest of the departments, he prepares, compiles and produces all quarterly, midterm and annual reports of the organization.
10.    Ensure compliance with the policies and procedures for publishing a photo/information/data of beneficiaries and adherence to all ethical standards that preserve their dignity.
11.    Media coverage of all activities/events of the organization.
12.    Supervise the process of educating the beneficiaries / the public about the organization, its activities and objectives...etc.
13.    Keeps documents, records, files and reports related to his work and works to update and maintain them constantly.
14.    Preparing the monthly report and submitting it to his direct supervisor.
15.    Perform other functions as assigned by the Supervisor.

Assist in the elaboration and implementation of the ADO communications strategy, focusing on the achievement of the following results:

  • Assist in the design and effective implementation of the communications strategy and action plan.
  • Support advocacy work, the MDGs campaign and the Human Development Report, including assistance in the production and publicity of corporate initiatives and publications.
  • Increase awareness of ADO goals both nationally and internationally through assistance in the dissemination of information, public events and acting as a source of reference.
  • Support in the design, management, maintenance and continuous development of the ADO website, internet and information database and repository based on ADO requirements in cooperation with the Website Manager.

Ensure the design, elaboration and implementation of the CO media strategy and plan focusing on the achievement of the following results:

  • Manage and direct publicity arrangements that promote/support the ADO and its programs and activities.
  • Develop media communication products and press materials for awareness-raising, including drafting of media/press briefings and releases, distribution to the target groups and monitoring of the preparation of press clippings; articles and stories for advocacy, synthesis of proposals, projects and programs; monthly newsletters, e-news, videos and social media updates before major events with the right media partners, ensuring documents are posted in the ADO website and social media accounts.
  • Effectively liaise/network with a group of core media personnel and journalists with the objective of developing and encouraging partnerships between the ADO and media bureau services for media and advocacy support. 
  • Maintenance of close contacts with national and international media, government officials, multilateral and bilateral donors, civil society and private sector.
  • Manage presence in social networking sites including Facebook, Twitter, and other similar community sites, and posting on relevant blogs.
  • Manage social media campaigns and day-to-day activities, including online advocacy, writing editorial, outreach efforts, promotions, etc.
  • Inform management of public attitude/concerns of various groups and organizations (including Government, development partners, media and civil society) that the ADO deals with.

Ensure high quality and result-based press events focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Lead the ADO Team in planning for, organizing, and participating in commemorative events and activities, launching of flagship initiatives and publications, including the preparation of talking points and speeches for Senior Management, as needed.
  • In consultation with the Program Team and the Procurement Officer, ensure effective and efficient logistic support to media and press events.
  • Arrange/conduct programs such as speaking engagements, roundtable discussions, press conferences, interviews and conventions, dealing with public relations, advertising companies and production houses as necessary.
  • In coordination with Program Teams, conduct advocacy work and prepare communications products for projects, and facilitate projects visits for media.

Ensure facilitation of knowledge building and sharing focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Identification and synthesis of best practices and lessons learned and support to ADO staff in documenting materials.
  • Contributions to knowledge networks and communities of practice including corporate communications repositories.
  • Organization of training and provision of advice to ADO staff on communications and media practices and issues.

Experience and Qualifications    

  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Professional Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in media relations, public relations, or a similar role, preferably in the non-profit or advocacy sector.
  • Media Relations: Proven track record in building and maintaining relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers.
  • Content Creation: Demonstrated ability to create engaging and persuasive content for various platforms, including press releases, articles, social media posts, and multimedia materials.
  • Digital Media Skills: Proficiency in utilizing digital platforms, social media, and other online tools for effective communication and outreach.
  • Crisis Communication: Experience in managing and responding to media inquiries during sensitive or crisis situations.
  • Event Management: Familiarity with planning and executing media-related events, press conferences, and media briefings.
  • Multimedia Skills: Knowledge of multimedia production, including graphic design, video editing, and photography, is a plus.
  • Brand Management: Understanding of brand management principles and the ability to ensure consistent messaging across all communication channels.
  • Language Skills: Proficiency in written and spoken English; additional languages may be advantageous.
