Overall Purpose

The Protection Officer will ensure the safety, well-being, and rights of persons of concern (PoC) affected by crises, conflicts, or disasters. The Protection Officer will play a crucial role in upholding human rights, preventing and responding to violations, and promoting a safe and inclusive environment. The Protection Officer will advocate for the rights and well-being of affected populations by raising awareness among communities, local authorities, and other stakeholders about human rights, protection standards, and available services. The Protection Officer will work to promote community participation and empowerment in protection-related decision-making processes.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Track progress against activities and outputs as committed and support the team to adjust work plans to achieve targets most effectively.

  • Work in the field and conduct daily follow-up with the Activity Coordinator, CBPN supervisors, and protection monitors.

  • Provide technical support and guidance to the database and information management teams, ensuring proper data collection, storage, and effective use in reporting and program management, monitoring, and evaluation.

  • Manage cases for vulnerable conflict-affected people as needed.

  • Raise awareness about protection issues among vulnerable conflict-affected children, communities, youth, and households through interviews, counseling, and awareness sessions.

  • Support referral cases to relevant service providers in the sites.

  • Review and approve emergency cases from the sites and follow up thoroughly.

  • Establish and coordinate with Community-Based Protection Networks (CBPNs).

  • Document challenges, difficulties, and success stories with the Reporting Officer and Media team during project implementation.

  • Track lessons learned to avoid repetition in the future.

  • Supervise and assist field teams in identifying and compiling key protection information and issues for preparing protection briefs and advocacy documents as needed.

  • Support the collection of reports from the field, collecting, drafting, editing, and submitting to the Project and Program Manager for review.

  • Support the implementation of training sessions for government counterparts.

  • Verify and investigate emergency cases related to protection and rent subsidies and collect all documents related to the emergency in coordination with the project manager.

  • Provide and prepare lists of vulnerable individuals in need of legal documentation and share with the CRA for identification.

  • Analyze daily, weekly, and monthly reports to identify key achievements, challenges, and advocacy issues.

  • Prepare weekly, monthly, mid, and final reports on time and deliver them to the project manager.

  • Perform any other duties as requested by the supervisor.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.

  • Two years of experience in the same field.

  • Experience working on similar tasks and duties.

  • Computer skills in MS Office programs.

  • Flexible with working hours and conditions.

  • Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and reporting in a timely manner.

  • Excellent verbal/written communication and relationship-building skills.

  • Team player, presentable, dynamic, and customer-oriented.

  • Ability to work independently and proactively.

  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks.
