Job Description

This position will provide full support to the MEAL activities, including data entry and data analysis, and monitor project objectives. Moreover, to strengthen accountability systems to ensure support is extended to all beneficiaries, carrying out routine M&E tasks & reporting, ensuring proper documentation. The MEAL assistant will also support strengthening the capacity of AFD project staff in monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning, complying with its policies and practices regarding the code of conduct, equal opportunities, and other relevant policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure local authorities and communities have been sensitized to the project's objectives, activities, and selection criteria, and that these processes have been adhered to during project selection.

  • Take into account the structures of local government and communities and ensure all project activities have considered the needs of children, women, vulnerable groups, and the environment.

  • Ensure that planned activities are conducted timely, and beneficiaries receive items without hindrances.

  • Assist in conducting baseline and end-line surveys, verifications, DDM, PDMs, observational monitoring, exit interviews, focus group discussions, and key informant interviews; ensuring quality data is collected from the field.

  • Handle feedback mechanism data and ensure complaints and suggestions are followed up on by the project team.

  • Assist in creating appropriate monitoring tools for project impact, quality, post-distribution monitoring, etc.

  • Conduct regular feedback sessions with the project team to ensure all findings are addressed, and adjustments made to the project throughout implementation.

  • Prepare a detailed implementation plan (monthly/weekly plans).

  • Supervise casual laborers in collecting data during field monitoring activities.

  • Perform analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, producing graphics and summaries, leading to dashboards with presenting the results of the analysis.

  • Carry out regular implementation monitoring and submit relevant reports to the project coordinator (weekly, monthly report, and project final evaluation report).

  • Participate in field office meetings with management and other departments as required.

  • Ensure quality and integrity of implementation and administrative systems.

  • Participate in documenting lessons learned, best practices, and case studies to contribute to sector learning.

  • Identify potential problems in project implementation in the field and discuss suggested solutions with local authorities and/or report to the project coordinator in a timely manner.

  • Work collaboratively with the project team to maximize efficiencies and effectiveness.

  • Help ensure resources are used efficiently.

  • Any other tasks assigned by the direct supervisor.

Essential Requirements

  • BSc/BA degree in social sciences, development studies, information management, management sciences, or other relevant discipline.

  • Two years of experience working with INGOs/NGOs.

  • One-year experience working in Livelihoods interventions.

  • Computer skills to create and input into Word and Excel documents.

  • Good level in English (speaking, writing, reading).

  • Experience in writing and compiling narrative and analytical reports.

  • Experience in supervising others and managing their performance.

  • Strong ability to verbally communicate complex ideas to rural populations.

  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively to the field, under sometimes difficult geographical conditions.

  • Ability to organize time, manage multiple tasks, and analyze information from many sources.

  • Accuracy in attention to detail and flexibility to withstand work pressures.

  • Ability to diplomatically and sensitively resolve conflicts within and between communities/stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of the areas of intervention (Lahj Governorate – Tuban & Al-Qubaita) and ability to relate with stakeholders.
