Agronomist 

Contract type: fixed term- one-year contract (extendable)

Purpose:

The agronomist is responsible for all agricultural projects in Yemen. He supervises the agricultural Field Officer/s; assessment of the agricultural situation; design, implementation, and monitoring of projects, and follows the budgeting and administrative procedures.
The Agronomist supports the EcoSec delegates and Deputy Coordinator in the design, implementation, and assessment of all agro-related projects in Yemen. In his field, the Agronomist contributes to the analysis of the Economic Security of the population in Yemen.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities 

Planning (10%)

  • In collaboration with the EcoSec Dep. Coordination defines operational strategies in line with the EcoSec Operational plan and Delegation strategy, and provides sound inputs for the annual planning exercise (PfR).
  • Prepares weekly/monthly/quarterly EcoSec Agro implementation plans in close collaboration with the Agronomist delegate and FOs and other SDs.
  • Prepares distribution plans based on the internal EcoSec and Delegation procedures.
  • Supports the EcoSec Delegates in various SDs in planning of activities in rural communities, including related joint action with other departments.

Assessment, Designing, and Implementation of Agro-projects (55%)

  • Designs and implements Agro EcoSec projects (Agro, support, and structural interventions) in close collaboration with the EcoSec Dep. Co., EcoSec Delegates, and SDs EcoSec FOs when necessary.
  • Identifies agro-response options and assesses appropriate assistance interventions using the EcoSec core components framework (food consumption/production, living conditions, income support, and capacity building);
  • Conducts agro needs assessments based on the standard EcoSec modalities and ensures that the assessment findings are effectively used for the design of different projects (output/outcome indicators, objectives, etc.).
  • Provides the relevant specialist technical inputs to Agro-projects.
  • Performs mid-level qualitative and quantitative data analysis and interprets agro, nutrition, and market information to identify economic security gaps and develop response options.
  • Monitors the implementation of the EcoSec Agro projects ensuring the progress and outcomes are being measured and reported against the pre-set project objectives and indicators.
  • Coordinates the implementation of agro interventions at the field level according to set objectives, after approval from sub-delegation managements and the EcoSec coordination team.
  • Acts as Agro focal person within the Delegation EcoSec team regarding the application of technical procedures and data collection tools.
  • Ensures accountability towards the affected/target population and local partners involved in EcoSec Agro interventions.
  • Contributes to analyzing the security, socioeconomic, cultural, and political environment in their AoRs.

Certifications/Education Required

  • University degree in economics, anthropology, agricultural sciences, agronomy, veterinary science, nutrition, public health or considerable experience in the humanitarian field.
  • Very good command of English and Arabic.
  • Computer proficiency.

Professional Experience Required     

  • Ideally 6 years overall professional experience, including 3–5 years experience in a similar field of activity.
