Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an International, independently funded, non-profit, humanitarian medical organization that offers assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural and man-made disasters and to victims of armed conflict without discrimination and irrespective of race, religion, creed or political affiliation. MSF is currently recruiting for the following position based in Taiz Houban:

Job Title : Mental Health Supervisor 
Location : MSF-H, Taiz Governorate

Main purpose:

Participate in the planning, supervision and coordination of mental health / pycho-social related services in the programme in accordance with MSF standards in order to provide the most appropriate mental health support for patients.

Accountabilities:

  • Participate in the planning, organization, and coordination of Mental Health activities, in close collaboration with the Mental Health activity manager and other medical team members, in order to ensure an efficient and effective implementation of the resources needed while maintaining high levels of quality in Mental Health MSF programs and activities. 
  • Coordinates activities of counseling services with other relevant actors and liaises with the local counterparts (like MoH, WHO, ICRC and NGO) on mental health matters, including referral services. 
  • Supervise the daily mental health activities and patient support according to MSF protocols and standards in order to provide the most appropriate support for clients with psycho-social needs 
  • Liaise with the other MSF team members of the project. 
  • Supervise, in close coordination with the HR department, the associated processes (recruitment, training/induction, evaluation, potential detection, development and communication) of the staff under his/her responsibility in order to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required 
  • Oversee the administrative processes associated with psychosocial functioning. 
  • When needed, give psychological support to patients according to MSF protocols to improve mental health conditions of patients and enhance their functionality. 
  • Compile the data and statistic linked with MH activities and report to the MH activity manager 
  • Offer clinical counseling supervision to mental health counselors  in collaboration with the Mental Health Activity Manager. 
  • Ensure the patient’s related information is kept confidential.

MSF Section/Context Specific Activities:

 

  • Direct supervisor of 4  counselors.
  • To insure  competence and capacity for the MH team (training, capacity building, guidelines, protocols, coaching and standard of operations )  
  • In collaboration with the MH Team, identify the needs and ensuring the mental health activities are performed to provide the most appropriate MH support to the beneficiaries. 
  • Plan referrals with the team to other relevant MSF sections and INGOs when necessary, and be the lead on this.
  • Perform individual and group counseling for beneficiaries, if needed
  • Discuss and plan difficult cases to direct line manager and possibly to the headquarter advisor, if any.
  • Prepare reports and share any relevant information related to mental health activities to the direct line manager. Participate in the monthly medical report writing, definition of annual planning, and preparation of budget for the project for the MH department.
  • Identify the gaps/ barrier of MH activities and propose possible solutions such as putting in place (SoPs) in relevant topics as and when necessary
  • Participate in the assessment of health care facilities and services provided in the governorate if necessary.
  • Flexibility to assist in emergency interventions for staff health, if needed.
  • Keep patients' clinical records secure and confidential.
  • Map other NGOs/INGOs and update as necessary.
  • Participate in working group meetings with other local /international organizations and draw up the relevant minutes.
  • In the absence of the Mental Health Activity Manager, participate in the weekly staff meeting and share information on mental health activities.
  • Ensure that data is correctly encoded in mental health DHIS2.
  • Staff are not allowed to chew QAT during working hours. Under no circumstances are firearms/weapons allowed in MSF vehicles or on MSF premises. The above-mentioned activities and responsibilities are not exhaustive, and staff may be assigned additional responsibilities or tasks as required by their line manager.

Requirements:

Education: Essential degree in Psychology, other Medical Studies is an asset. 
Experience: Essential 2 years experience as a Psychologist, including supervised clinical activities.
Language(s): English and Arabic language are essential.
