An Overview about ADO

Abs Development Organization for Women and Child (ADO) is a well-established national, humanitarian, developmental, non-profit, and non-governmental organization, founded in August 1996 by a group of Yemeni girls to provide a better life for women, children, and youths. ADO has been operating in Yemen for more than 28 years with an outstanding coverage to the deprived rural areas located on the coast of Tehama and other various areas in Yemen aiming to get rid of poverty and infectious diseases. Since its inception, ADO has implemented over 213 developmental and humanitarian projects. According to ADO's latest cumulative statistics, by the end of the year 2021, a total of 6,695,412 people were benefited from these interventions. Consequently, the organization has established itself among the most effective civil society organizations in Yemen that are working on issues related to livelihood, health, education, and WASH supporting women, children, and youth. Operating from its Headquarter office in Sana’a, and through its branch offices in Al-Hodeidah, Hajjah, Abs, Raymah Taiz, and Aden, ADO provides educational, health, livelihood, and WASH services to urban and rural communities. As ADO believes that women are the essence of life, it has devoted all its activities and programs to empower and educate women who will lead to a modern and just state. ADO also believes that protecting and caring for children will result in a prosperous future; free from crime and terrorism. Furthermore, ADO believes that youth are the potential and driving force of any modern civil society.

Job objectives/ Scope

Food security and Livelihoods Assistant help to assist in the day-to-day implementation of the food security and livelihood (FSL) projects. Promote and share ideas for improvement of the support function. Provide regular activity progress reports to livelihood and food security officer.

Reporting to: Project Manager

Duties and Responsibilities

Community Mobilization:

  • Sensitize local authorities and communities to the project’s objectives, activities, and selection criteria.
  • Ensure beneficiary selection criteria are understood by local authorities and community members and that project beneficiaries have been identified according to the vulnerability and target criteria.
  • Assist in running community meetings and workshops in a participatory and inclusive manner, to ensure that project activities are developed in consultation with communities and consider vulnerable groups.
  • Contribute to conduct the targeted vocational trainings for the beneficiaries with community members or target groups on various topics, as required.
  • Assist the officer to develop the plan for the small and microfinance enterprises and distribution of financial support to the SME groups.
  • Collect and maintain lists of all beneficiaries with each project activity, to be input by Data Assistant.

Activity Implementation:

  • Responsible for FSL activity implementation in specific communities/geographical areas and for a specific beneficiary caseload, and reports to the relevant Officer for that location.
  • Responsible for overseeing the work, and assure quality in their specific geographical areas.
  • Share community feedback on beneficiary selection criteria with FSL Officer to update and finalize selection criteria.
  • Oversee beneficiary selection and verification process to ensure the correct procedures are followed and relevant documentation is completed in identified geographical areas.
  • Direct field managing of livelihood assets distribution process.
  • Ensure basic information on target beneficiaries is collected and recorded and shared with FSL Officers in a timely manner.
  • Manage and supervise the distribution points team in the areas of interventions.
  • Support the MEAL team to respond to beneficiary complaints that raised by CFM.
  • Support the project officer on building the and trainings for community committees volunteers.
  • Keep accurate record of all project documents related to food dispatch and distribution in areas of supervision.
  • Follow up food delivery and transporter to ensure receiving enough food ration as planned and the quantity showed in waybill list.
  • With support from FSL Officer, coordinate with other field actors to ensure there is no beneficiary overlap in the finalized list of beneficiaries.
  • With support from FSL Officer, responsible for preparing an appropriate monthly work plan for distribution and sharing with beneficiaries, community committees prior to each cycle of distribution.
  • Oversee distribution process, ensuring ADO’s standards and security procedures are followed.
  • Ensure any problems in implementation are reported to Field Officers in a timely manner and appropriate action taken with support from FSL Officer.
  • Oversee field assessments and surveys to monitor the situation and the progress as well as the process and check quality of information collected.
  • Identify potential problems in the project implementation in the field and discuss suggested action/solution with project authorities or report to appropriate personnel.

Protection/Safeguarding: Facilitate training for all staff and beneficiaries on safeguarding topics.

Monitoring and Evaluation:

  • Verify that the FSL Database has complete beneficiary data and update regularly.
  • Follow-up on feedback from M&E Officer and Accountability Assistants to ensure that all findings are addressed and adjustments made to projects throughout implementation.
  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor and troubleshoot, submitting reports to the Program Officer.
  • Assist in FSL assessments, surveys, data collection, and analysis as required by Project Officers.

Reporting:

  • Assist FSL Project Officer and project coordinator in compiling regular progress reports (narrative and data).
  • Any additional tasks as requested by the line manager.

Experience and Qualifications

  • University degree in social science, economics, Agriculture, geography or other discipline relevant to urban/rural livelihoods.
  • 3-5 years of experience

Skills

  • Two years of experience working with International NGOs/3-4 years with Local NGOs.
  • Two-years experiences in food security and livelihood interventions (Livelihood assets distribution, on-job training).
  • Ability to organize time and manage multiple tasks on different topics at one time.
  • Good attitude, hardworking, and able to take initiative and problem solve independently.
  • Ability to verbally communicate with rural/coastal populations (in Arabic) and resolve conflicts.
  • Knowledge of the areas of intervention (Mukha, Khawkha) and ability to relate with stakeholders.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively to the field, sometimes in difficult or insecure circumstances.
  • Experience supervising others is preferred.
  • Computer skills to create and input into Word and Excel documents and navigate the internet and email.
