About SDF:

The Sustainable Development Foundation (SDF) is a non-governmental, voluntary, independent organization established in March 2015, officially registered at the Ministry of Social Affairs as per license (99). As SDF has been present in Yemen since 2015, it has experience implementing emergency child protection and education responses, including women and youth empowerment. SDF has experience in handling large grants from international donors, such as UNDP, UNHCR, WFP, OCHA, WHO, SCI and ZOA. The Foundation has excellent national-level relations and has experience in coordinating with both national and international NGOs. It has offices, staff and community-based committees in Hajjah, Sana'a, Marib, Ibb, Hudidah, Dhamar, Almahweet, Al-Bayda’a, a6nd Hadramout as well as solid experiences engaging with local communities from whom it gained acceptance and with whom it has collaborated in the past. In addition to that, SDF creates livelihood opportunities and community-based protection.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage, supervise, and guide the child protection team members (including the child protection psychologists), ensuring effective and efficient implementation of UNHCR’s best interest procedures guidelines (BIP).
  • Review and endorse all best interest assessments (BIAs), best interest determination reports (BIDs), care arrangement assessments and agreements, and notes for the files conducted by the child protection officers.
  • Oversee and ensure proper case management practices, including the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date case records.
  • Make decisions related to child protection, considering the team's recommendations and relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Case planning review and case management - draws insights from assessment and analysis to formulate a meaningful and effective case plan, and reviews case progress and outcomes.
  • Reporting on child protection trends from the field regularly;
  • Keep close and good coordination with refugee communities, host community, UNHCR, UNHCR partners, and local authorities on child protection-related issues.
  • Co-organize and facilitate where possible the child protection-related trainings and write the final training reports.
  • Prepare monthly and annual reports on the team's activities, achievements, and challenges, highlighting areas for improvement, providing protection analysis, and making recommendations.
  • Monitor and supervise data entry into the system, ensuring that all information is entered accurately and on time, and in-line with UNHCR data protection policy.
  • Analyze the situation of children under case management, identifying risks, needs, and appropriate interventions.
  • Develop comprehensive work plans for the team, setting clear objectives, targets, and timelines.
  • Lead weekly/monthly supervisory meetings with the team to address any issues and set team plans.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with other departments within SDF and relevant stakeholders to ensure a holistic and integrated approach to child protection services.
  • Liaise with logistics and finance departments to ensure protection activities have the required resources on time, and complete and keep records of the necessary paperwork.
  • Attend meetings with the team to discuss decision-making for complex cases, ensuring that all perspectives are considered, and appropriate actions are taken.
  • Evaluating and delivering program improvements - works with colleagues and key stakeholders to evaluate programs, identify opportunities, develop solutions, and identify and overcome barriers to continuously improve program outcomes. 
  • Evaluate the performance of team members, providing feedback, coaching, and support as needed.
  • Perform any other duties as requested by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or a related field. Master's degree is preferred.
  • Proven experience in child protection and case management or related fields, with at least [2] years of supervisory experience.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken) is a mandatory requirement. 
  • In-depth knowledge of child protection principles, standards, and best practices.
  • Familiarity with relevant laws, regulations, and policies related to child protection.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to assess complex situations and make sound judgments.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in using computer systems and software applications for data management and reporting.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. 
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and multidisciplinary team.
