An Overview about ADO

Abs Development Organization for woman and Child (ADO) is a well-established national, humanitarian, developmental, non-profit and non-governmental organization, founded in August 1996 by a group of Yemeni girls to provide a better life for women, children, and youths. ADO has been operating in Yemen for more than 28 years with an outstanding coverage to the deprived rural areas located on the coast of Tehama and other various areas in Yemen aiming to get rid of poverty and infectious diseases. Since its inception, ADO has implemented over 235 developmental and humanitarian projects. According to ADO latest cumulative statistics, by end of the year 2023 a total of  7,695,412 people were benefited from these interventions. Consequently, the organization has established itself among the most effective civil society organizations in Yemen that are working on issues related to livelihood, health, education, and WASH supporting women, children, and youth. Operating from its Headquarter office in Sana’a, and through its branch offices in Al-Hodeidah, Hajjah, Abs, Raymah Taiz and Aden, ADO provides educational, health, livelihood and WASH services to urban and rural communities. As ADO believes that women are the essence of life, it has devoted all its activities and programs to empower and educate women who will lead to a modern and just state. ADO also believes that protecting and caring for children will result in a prosperous future; free from crime and terrorism. Furthermore, ADO believes that youth are the potential and driving force of any modern civil society.

Job objectives/ Scope    

The scope of work for the Senior Health and Nutrition Officer would involve designing and implementing comprehensive programs to address health issues, violence, and abuse. This would include developing strategies for empowerment, conducting prevention and awareness campaigns, providing training and capacity building, collaborating with stakeholders, monitoring and evaluating program effectiveness, advocating for policy changes, and ensuring accurate reporting and documentation to achieve the project's goal.

Position Overview:    

The Senior Health and Nutrition Officer at Abs Development Organization for Woman and Child (ADO) is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing and coordinating health and nutrition programs for vulnerable populations. This position requires expertise in public health, nutrition, and program management to ensure the delivery of high-quality health and nutrition services. The Senior Health and Nutrition Officer will work closely with internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders to develop and implement effective strategies and interventions. Under the supervision of the project manager, Senior Health and Nutrition Officer will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of health and nutrition projects in targeted areas. This includes providing technical assistance, designing and planning projects, monitoring implementation, and administering health and nutrition program activities.

Reporting to: Project Manager 

Duties and Responsibilities

Program Implementation and Management:

  • Coordinate with the project team to ensure the high-quality implementation of health and nutrition projects according to proposals, donor agreements, and ADO policies.
  • Supervise the performance of H&N officers and other project officers involved in the project, including day-to-day activities, performance appraisals, work schedules, and general well-being.
  • Ensure that health and nutrition activities are implemented in accordance with national and international guidelines and best practices.

Resource Management:

  • Ensure the availability and allocation of resources necessary for the smooth and timely implementation of project activities within the allocated budget and scope.
  • Collaborate with ADO finance and logistics teams to monitor project progress against approved outputs and budgets, and ensure the preparation and regular updating of activity plans, project budgets, and procurement plans.

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting:

  • Develop and maintain monitoring and evaluation frameworks to track project progress and impact.
  • Conduct regular assessments, gather data, and prepare accurate and informative reports according to donor regulations and requirements.
  • Provide comprehensive plans, monitoring tools, and strategies to monitor project progress, quality, and impact.

Partnership and Networking:

  • Foster strong relationships and represent the organization externally with other INGOs, NGOs, relevant clusters, and local authorities in the project's areas of responsibility.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to leverage resources, share information, and coordinate efforts to maximize the project's impact.

Advocacy and Awareness:

  • Advocate for the rights of vulnerable populations and raise awareness about the importance of health and nutrition in reducing illness, violence, and abuse.
  • Engage with policymakers, conduct public campaigns, and collaborate with media outlets to promote evidence-based practices.

Capacity Building:

  • Identify training needs and develop capacity-building programs for healthcare professionals, community workers, and volunteers.
  • Provide technical assistance, organize workshops, and mentor staff to enhance their skills in delivering health and nutrition services.

Research and Innovation:

  • Stay informed about the latest research and innovations in the field of health and nutrition related to reducing illness, violence, and abuse.
  • Integrate evidence-based practices and explore innovative approaches to address the unique challenges of the target population.

Coordination and Reporting:

  • Coordinate with various departments and stakeholders within ADO to ensure effective implementation of the project.
  • Provide regular updates, prepare progress reports, and share best practices and lessons learned.

Career Path/ Career Cluster: Program

Experience and Qualifications    

  • Academic degree in public health, medicine, nutrition, or a related field (bachelor's degree minimum).
  • 3-6 years of experience working with I/NGOs in Health &Nutrition projects.
  • Knowledge of working with clusters, UN Agencies and aspects of mainstreaming and accountability, and demonstrable experience in establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with donors and government counterparts.
  • Ability to plan and organize work within a fluid working environment and has the capacity for initiative and decision-making with competent analytical, solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Extensive experience in models and methods of training, facilitation and capacity building and organizational development for staff.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Reporting Skills are Required.
  • Excellent English and Arabic Languages.
