About SDF:

The Sustainable Development Foundation (SDF) is a non-governmental, voluntary, independent organization established in March 2015, officially registered at the Ministry of Social Affairs as per license (99). As SDF has been present in Yemen since 2015, it has experience implementing emergency child protection and education responses, including women and youth empowerment. SDF has experience in handling large grants from international donors, such as UNDP, UNHCR, WFP, OCHA, WHO, SCI and ZOA. The Foundation has excellent national-level relations and has experience in coordinating with both national and international NGOs. It has offices, staff and community-based committees in Hajjah, Sana'a, Marib, Ibb, Hudidah, Dhamar, Almahweet, Al-Bayda’a, a6nd Hadramout as well as solid experiences engaging with local communities from whom it gained acceptance and with whom it has collaborated in the past. In addition to that, SDF creates livelihood opportunities and community-based protection.

Job Context:

The Reporting & Media Officer operates in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, working closely with various departments and IDPs project teams. The role requires staying up-to-date with the project activities progress, trends and best practices in media and communication. The role will interact with external stakeholders, partner organizations, and community members. Under the supervision of the Project Manager, the Reporting & Media Officer will be the primary channel through which communications between the project and its counterparts will take place.

Job Description:

The Reporting & Media Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate and timely reporting of programmatic activities and outcomes of the IDPs project. This position is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and synthesizing data, as well as preparing comprehensive reports that demonstrate the impact of the IDPs project's initiatives to various stakeholders, including donors, partners, and the wider community. Also, the role plays a vital role in enhancing the project's visibility and promoting its mission through collecting IDPs project data & enhance the project stakeholders with quantitative/qualitative reports and effective communication and media engagement in coordination with SDF media team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Compile field level information required to produce weekly/monthly progress reports, quarterly indicator/ narrative reports, midterm/annual reports and other narrative reports as assigned by the project manager.
  • Oversee project data quality, accuracy and consistency in a timely manner by systematically screening and cross-checking internal/external reports, SDF system, KoBo system & Activity Info. system. 
  • Analyze collected data to identify key trends, patterns, and insights using appropriate statistical and analytical tools to interpret data and draw conclusions. 
  • Distribute reports to relevant individuals, departments or donors in a timely manner and in the required format.
  • Develop and maintain a reliable data management system to store and organize data effectively. 
  • Implement data quality control measures to ensure data integrity and reliability.
  • Maintain a close collaboration with the Monitoring and Evaluation team, field and technical Teams to ensure a smooth exchange of information.
  • Provide technical support, training and clarification on SDF/donor reporting policies.
  • Provide guidance and support to staff members on media and communication-related matters.
  • Collaborate with project teams to gather information and generate content for reports, presentations, and other communication materials.
  • Conduct interviews and write compelling stories to highlight the impact of the organization's work.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to understand reporting requirements and to gather necessary information. 
  • Build effective relationships with stakeholders to ensure the accuracy and relevance of reports.
  • Stay Committed to maintaining confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Any other tasks as delegated by the line manager.

Selection Criteria:

  • Previous experience working with INGOs/NGOs.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining databases and data management systems.
  • Ability to analyze complex data sets and extract meaningful insights.
  • Strong presentation skills to effectively communicate complex information to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to identify data anomalies and inconsistencies.
  • Strong storytelling abilities and the capacity to create engaging content for different communication channels.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, and key stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of ethical guidelines and best practices in media and communications.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • University degree with relevant experience and advanced training/courses in journalism, English, social sciences, international relations, or other related fields.
  • Previous experience of minimum 3 years in reporting/ data Analysis & communication in emergency projects.
  • Excellent fluency in written English and Arabic.
  • Proven writing and design skills & ability to present info. clearly and concisely visually and narratively.
  • Knowledge of report writing software such as Microsoft Excel & PowerPoint. skills and knowledge of Power BI software is an advantage.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment, handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to travel to the field when needed.
