Founded in 1978, JSI collaborates with government agencies, the private sector, and local nonprofit and civil society organizations to identify and implement solutions to the most pressing public health and education challenges.

In Yemen, JSI has been managing public health programs since 1988, focusing on improving child health and routine immunization, strengthening the supply chain, and improving reproductive, maternal, and newborn health.

Project Overview

The Strengthening Healthcare Access project is a five-year USAID-funded initiative aimed at enhancing access to and equitable utilization of evidence-based maternal, newborn, and child health; nutrition; family planning; and reproductive health (MNCHN/FP/RH) services in Yemen. Led by JSI, the project collaborates with partners to employ a community-led strategy encompassing demand generation, supply-side reinforcement, and enabling environment support. Through engagement with midwives, community reproductive health volunteers, and community structures, the project will create awareness, facilitate access, and enhance care quality. 

Position Description:

The Security Assistant will assist the Office Manager in ensuring the safety and security of all staff, visitors, and assets in the field office. The Security Assistant will liaise with government authorities and other relevant stakeholders to ensure smooth and secure access to field sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Office Manager in developing and implementing security protocols and procedures for the field office
  • Monitor the security situation in the field and report any potential threats or incidents to the Office Manager.
  • Submitting a weekly security situational report to the country office.
  • Conduct regular security assessments of the targeted areas
  • Coordinate with government authorities and other relevant stakeholders to ensure safe and secure access to field sites
  • Coordinate and going to issue the permits from the different authorities’ governmental facilities.
  • Follow up with Ministry of Interior the night before each permit (cargo or personnel)
  • Filling all permits and keeping records per month.
  • Helping and supporting in cases where the tribal communication is more effective than the legal channels if needed in cases of seizing or blocking cargos, personals or assets of JSI.
  • Following up with all field trips with liaise with the fleet department. 
  • Provide security briefings to staff and visitors as needed.
  • Ensure that all security equipment and infrastructure is in good working order and properly maintained
  • Manage access to the field office and ensure that all visitors are properly registered and screened.
  • Coordinate with the Office Manager to ensure that security procedures are in compliance with JSI and donor policies and regulations
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Office Manager or other senior management

Qualifications:

  • Recommended a minimum of 3 years field based experience in complex and insecure settings, preferably with INGOs and international institutions.
  • Proven experience in security risk assessment and management
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with government authorities and other stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative in managing security issues.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Fluency in Arabic and English
  • Willingness to travel to field sites as needed.
