An Overview about ADO

Abs Development Organization for woman and Child (ADO) is a well-established national, humanitarian, developmental, non-profit and non-governmental organization, founded in August 1996 by a group of Yemeni girls to provide a better life for women, children, and youths. ADO has been operating in Yemen for more than 27 years with an outstanding coverage to the deprived rural areas located on the coast of Tehama and other various areas in Yemen aiming to get rid of poverty and infectious diseases. Since its inception, ADO has implemented over 213 developmental and humanitarian projects. According to ADO latest cumulative statistics, by end of the year 2021, a total of  6,695,412 people were benefited from these interventions. Consequently, the organization has established itself among the most effective civil society organizations in Yemen that are working on issues related to livelihood, health, education, and WASH supporting women, children, and youth. Operating from its Headquarter office in Sana’a, and through its branch offices in Al-Hodeidah, Hajjah, Abs, Raymah Taiz and Aden, ADO provides educational, health, livelihood and WASH services to urban and rural communities. As ADO believes that women are the essence of life, it has devoted all its activities and programs to empower and educate women who will lead to a modern and just state. ADO also believes that protecting and caring for children will result in a prosperous future; free from crime and terrorism. Furthermore, ADO believes that youth are the potential and driving force of any modern civil society.

Job objectives/ Scope    

The Health and Nutrition Officer is expected to perform all H&N related activities including the following:

  • Implement and manage a project aimed at Reducing Disease, Violence, and Abuse Through Systematic Empowerment within the framework of Abs Development Organization (ADO).
  • Ensure the provision of high-quality and sustainable health and Nutrition services to beneficiaries.

Promote health awareness and encourage positive health behaviors in the target community.

Position Overview:    

The Nutrition and Health Officer works under the direct supervision of the Senior Health and Nutrition Officer. He is responsible for overseeing and coordinating health and nutrition activities in the targeted districts, ensuring the delivery of quality health services, and providing technical support to health facilities and mobile teams

Reporting to: Project Manager

Duties and Responsibilities

1.    Collaborate with the Senior Health and Nutrition Officer in planning, implementing, and monitoring health and Nutrition programs.
2.    Ensure that health and nutrition activities are implemented in compliance with project objectives, guidelines, and standards.
3.    Monitor and evaluate the progress of the project, identify challenges, and propose solutions.
4.    Ensure timely and accurate reporting on the project's activities and outcomes.
5.    Coordinate with various stakeholders, including government health authorities and other implementing partners.
6.    Facilitate effective collaboration between health facilities, mobile teams, and other relevant entities.
7.    Participate in coordination meetings and represent ADO in health-related forums.
8.    Provide direct technical supervision and guidance to health facilities and mobile teams.
9.    Conduct regular assessments and evaluations to assess the quality of health services provided.
10.    Ensure that all referral services are delivered to referred emergency cases according to ADO's Referral Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and maintain the confidentiality of patient information.
11.    Identify training needs of health facility staff and mobile team members.
12.    Develop and implement capacity-building initiatives to enhance skills and knowledge.
13.    Conduct training sessions on relevant health topics and best practices.
14.    Provide ongoing mentorship and support to health facility staff and mobile team members.
15.    Monitor infection prevention and control measures in health facilities and mobile activities.
16.    Conduct regular field follow up  visits to assess service quality and compliance with standards.
17.    Ensure the availability and proper use of essential drugs, medical supplies, and equipment in health facilities and mobile teams.
18.    Provide guidance on data collection, analysis, and reporting to ensure accurate and timely information.
19.    Support community engagement initiatives to promote health awareness and participation through collaboration with community leaders and health committees to address community health needs.
20.    Seek feedback from beneficiaries and integrate it into program planning and implementation.
21.    Perform any other tasks assigned by the line manager.

Experience and Qualifications    

  • Academic degree in public health, medicine, nutrition, or a related field (bachelor's degree minimum).
  • 2-4 years of experience in Health and Nutrition Projects with strong technical knowledge of public health principles, guidelines, and best practices.
  • Previous training in Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI), or Minimum Initial Service Package (MISP) is preferred.
  • Experience in conducting training for healthcare workers.

Previous experience in coordinating with Government Health Offices (GHO), District Health Offices (DHO), clusters, and community committees and leaders.
