NPA’s international work covers three core areas: Mine Action and Disarmament, Democratization and Just distribution of power and resources, and Humanitarian Action and crisis response.

NPA is seeking a Non-Technical Survey Team leader for its program in Yemen.

Responsibilities.  

In accordance with NPA NTS Standard Operating Procedures, national guidelines for NTS and the NTS activity plan the NTS TL will undertake NTS and provide EORE in designated communities performing the following tasks: 

   Specific duties:

  • Conduct activities in accordance with NPA SOPs.
  • Lead the team in meetings with authorities or communities.
  • Perform surveyor duties if required due to an absence of surveyors in the team.
  • Organize gathering geographic information about mine affected communities, threats from IEDs and ERW, technical information, socio-economic conditions, follow up activities and impact of NPA activities on the communities, including information concerning mine and ERW accidents
  • Assessing needs at village and community levels, and establishing priorities in cooperation with all stake holders at the local level
  • Analysing gathered data, and where necessary dissemination of information
  • Organize in advance dates and timings for EORE sessions in collaboration with communities and national/local authorities.
  • Responsible for EORE training aids, equipment, and materials (posters, banners, pamphlets, etc.) and maintenance of a documented inventory.
  • Ensuring that the NTS/EORE TFM is fully briefed on all issues relating to Non-Technical Survey and EORE activities 
  • Provide regular updates to NPA regarding the security situation and developments on the ground.
  • Collect and report beneficiary feedback on training sessions and content.
  • Cooperating and coordinating closely with all humanitarian mine action activities
  • Control the team on all safety measures during field visits  
  • Ensuring that all information collected is accurately recorded and standard formats for reporting are followed by his team
  • Collect information in targeted communities through direct interviews or focus group discussions when required 
  • On daily basis submit reports as applicable to NTS/EORE TFM.
  • Any other duties as directed by the NTS TFM.

Required qualification

Education:

  • A university degree preferably in sociology/social sciences/teaching
  • Experience from working with teaching/education/social work
  • Demining/BAC course

Must have:

  • Survey/NTS/Community Liaison 
  • Verbal proficiency in English
  • Computer Literacy
  • Prefer to have an experience.

Desirable:

  • Experience in working with Mine Action/ NGOs

  • Motivating and encouraging subordinates to be proactive and forthcoming with identified issues. 
  • Strong decision-making skills.
  • Possess an analytical mindset when faced with challenges.
  • Capable of addressing or confronting safety, security, and cultural issues without inciting confrontation.
  • Proficient in working independently in austere environments without requiring assistance.

 Additional Considerations

 The Non-Technical Survey Team leader will work out of NPA office in Aden and may expect to spend long time in the field to conduct her work as described. The NTS surveyor is expected to conduct her work in a loyal and efficient manner; show initiative and commitment towards the goals and objectives of the project, and Humanitarian Mine Action in general. The NTS surveyor is expected to be familiar with and adhere to the NPA Code of Conduct.
