MEDICAL DOCTOR (2 vacant positions)

Position status: Full time 
Location: Ad Dahi Hospital – Ad Dahi District, Hodeida Governorate
Contract duration:1-year contract with a probation period 

Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, humanitarian, non-governmental organization providing assistance to people in need as a result of natural and man-made disasters, irrespective of race, religion, ideology or politics.
    
Main Purpose

Provide outpatient and/or inpatient medical care to patients/beneficiaries in Ad dahi Hospital (ER, ICU, IPD, ITFC and ATFC) according to adapted and updated medical knowledge, MSF protocols, values and universal hygiene standards to improve the patients/beneficiary’s health conditions.

Accountabilities

  • Apply medical knowledge and skills to diagnose and prevention. Carry out outpatient and inpatient consultations, prescribing the necessary treatment respecting MSF protocols. 
  • Keep the patient and/or his/her family informed about the illness and provide appropriate explanations about the treatment to follow, checking they have understood. 
  • Follow up the evolution of the hospitalized/IDP patients, through daily visits, consultations and examinations, prescribing the necessary treatment following MSF protocols, deciding whether they can be discharged or transferred to other departments – in collaboration with other doctors- and informing their family about the patient’s evolution. 
  • Participate in the collection and analysis of epidemiological data, checking its validity and informing the line manager or project coordinator about any problem or complication of the patients illness, medical error and monitors the proper functioning of the department, equipment or material. 
  • Ensure ongoing training of the medical/paramedical multidisciplinary team in order to optimize the quality of care. 
  • Knows and ensures all MSF medical protocols are followed and implemented, checking universal precautions are followed at all times and reducing bio-hazard risks and improving infection control. Ensures professional confidentiality is respected. 

MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities

  • Provide timely diagnosis and treatment for life-threatening illnesses and injuries in the hospital emergency room, pediatric ward, ICU, and ITFC/ATFC.
  • Evaluate patients arriving in the emergency room and make decisions regarding discharge, treatment, or admission based on the admission, referral, or discharge criteria of MSF Ad Dahi Hospital. Apply the same principles to another unites ICU, IPD, ITFC and ATFC
  • In cases of severe acute trauma or illness, resuscitate and/or stabilize the patient by administering medications and conducting lifesaving surgical procedures that alleviate the medical crisis and prepare the patient for further treatment. Facilitate the early transfer out of the ER patients to concerned units within the 6-hour time frame for definitive treatment.
  • Maintain regular communication with patients and their families to provide updates on the patient's condition, prognosis, and treatment plan. Involve the family in decision-making processes regarding the patient's management, fostering a partnership approach.
  • Knowledge of the project referral criteria, ensure adherence to them, coordinate necessary referrals with the Medical Activity Manager, and accompany critical patients in MSF ambulance to external facilities in Hudaidah City as instructed by the Medical Activity Manager.
  • Ensure rational distribution of medications and equipment under your responsibility, and maintain the quality, disinfection, and sterilization of medical materials. Adhere to hygiene standards.
  • Ensure accurate completion of ER forms for each patient and hand over the doctor's copy at the end of the shift to enable precise data collection and analysis for improved quality of care. 
  • Immediately report any defects, discrepancies, or medical errors in patient care to the line manager for prompt remedial action.
  • Demonstrate punctuality in shift handovers, flexibility in duties, and proper bedside handover of patients to incoming colleagues. Actively participate in rounds if conducted during your duty with the pediatrician. 
  • Mandatory participation in weekly training/ meeting sessions to discuss medical issues and update knowledge as per the contract.
  • Participation in ongoing training for the medical and paramedical multidisciplinary team to optimize the quality of care.
  • Ensure adherence to all MSF medical protocols, follow universal precautions at all times, and actively reduce biohazard risks while improving infection control. 
  • Maintain professional confidentiality.
  • Efficiently participate in data collection.

Requirements

Education    

  • Essential Medical Doctor bachelor’s degree 
  • Essential Valid medical Council License as General Practitioner
  • Desirable diploma in Tropical Medicine

Experience    

  • Essential at least 2-years certified work experience as a Medical Doctor
  • Experience in Pediatric ER, ICU, IPD, ITFC is an asset.
  • Desirable previous experience with MSF or other NGOs 

Languages        

  • Essential Arabic and English
