Role Overview:

  • The Agricultural Specialist must have experience in Economics as he/she will be responsible for providing expertise in agricultural economics to support projects focused on enhancing economic resilience and financial services for smallholders, SMEs, and microfinance service providers in Marib city and District.
  • The Specialist will play a key role in project planning, execution, and delivery by applying economic principles to analyze and improve agricultural value chains.
  • This position requires a deep understanding of agricultural economics, financial analysis, and market dynamics in the agricultural sector.
  • The Specialist in Agricultural Economics will play a crucial role in providing economic insights and analysis to support the successful implementation of projects aimed at strengthening agricultural value chains and enhancing economic opportunities for smallholders and SMEs in targeted areas.
  • This position requires a highly skilled individual with a strong background in agricultural economics and a passion for driving sustainable economic development in the agricultural sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct economic analysis of agricultural value chains to identify gaps, challenges, opportunities for improvement and opportunities for growth and efficiency.
  • Develop and implement strategies, plans, and interventions to enhance agricultural productivity, profitability, and sustainability.
  • Collaborate with project partners and stakeholders to design and deliver training programs, workshops, and demonstrations to build the capacity of farmers and extension workers.
  • Identify and promote innovative approaches, technologies, and practices to improve agricultural productivity and value chain efficiency.
  • Develop financial models and projections to support project planning and decision-making.
  • Assess the impact of project interventions on smallholders, SMEs, and microfinance institutions.
  • Provide recommendations for improving access to financial services and enhancing economic opportunities for project beneficiaries.
  • Collaborate with project teams to integrate economic considerations into project activities.
  • Monitor market trends and economic indicators to inform project strategies and interventions.
  • Support in the development of grant proposals and budgets with an economic focus.
  • Analyze project data and prepare reports on the economic performance of project activities.
  • Contribute to the design of training programs related to agricultural economics for project beneficiaries.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics, Economics, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in agricultural economics, financial analysis, or economic development projects.
  • Strong knowledge of agricultural value chains, market dynamics, and financial management.
  • Experience in conducting economic research and analysis in the agricultural sector.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis software and economic modeling tools.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong knowledge of agricultural practices, crop production, and value chain development.
  • Familiarity with modern agricultural technologies, irrigation systems, and sustainable farming practices.
  • Experience in providing training and capacity-building support to farmers and agricultural stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation principles and tools in the agriculture sector.
  • Proficiency in English and Arabic languages.
  • Understanding of the Yemeni agricultural context, particularly in Marib Governorate, is highly desirable.
